Invictus is well and truly broken, though they wouldn't describe it that way—they prefer "vengeful." They're needlessly destructive and violent, which is honestly directed at themselves just as much as it is at those around them, though they wouldn't view it that way. Standoffish, spiteful, and cruel for very little reason, Invictus has it out for the world at large and absolutely wants you to know it. They're bitter as all hell and will take it out on those that work up the nerve to approach.

Additionally, they're arrogant—Invictus very clearly thinks of themselves as better than everyone around them, and it's hard to argue with them when they have the amount of power that they have. Despite this outwards show of confidence and self-assurance, Invictus is honestly a deeply dissatisfied person, and they are high-key suicidal on a regular basis. Good fucking luck getting them to admit that, though—they're completely and utterly emotionally closed off, and that is not going to change any time soon. Vulnerability got them burned, and they have absolutely no interest in a repeat of that situation. Instead, Invictus keeps themselves going for pure spite, staying around mostly so they can revel in misery and misfortune. They have great difficulty with expressing sincerity.

Despite their cruelty, though, they seem to be very skilled at picking up followers and lackeys, with no shortage of people willing to tag along with them... either because they believe they can "fix" Invictus and that they secretly must have a heart of gold, giving the god someone that will defend and enable Invictus' nastiness, or because they want to join in the mayhem and it seems like a good time. Invictus is subtly manipulative, and uses their nastier behavior as a weapon to push those upset by it into doing what they want anyway by indirect means while also encouraging those prone to "follower" behavior to join in the bullying. They're blunt to a fault, but not unwilling to lie when it suits them. Seemingly compassionate behavior is almost always coercive—they have an ulterior motive 90% of the time.

Invictus is recalcitrant and terse, and tends not to mince their words. They're extremely stubborn and willful, and trying to get them to chill is likely to agitate them further. Sarcastic, bitter, and openly hostile, they're a misanthropic nihilist and don't shy away from pointing out all the ways that people are disappointments and worth nothing more than entertainment. They're a spitfire, impulsive and driven by emotion, though they're perfectly capable of maintaining a deadly calm since they know it's much more intimidating than shouting and throwing a fit. They're predatory in the extreme and tend to loom, deliberately and obviously sizing up those they speak to like they're little more than a piece of meat.

Invictus does not forgive slights. Ever. If you piss them off, that's it. They're entirely aware they are an asshole and a shit person, and do not care. Despite the fact that they're so hostile and nasty, they actually hate themselves just as much as any rational person would hate them—maybe even more.

Invictus hates nicknames, and will not use nicknames for those they talk to. Ever. If you nickname them, they will become agitated very quickly.

Despite all of this nastiness, though, Invictus has one dubiously positive quality—their loyalty. Those that manage to get past the many walls and deliberately hurtful behaviors that the god exhibits may potentially earn Invictus' friendship—something that is seldom offered, as they are incredibly particular. Still, though, those that Invictus names "friend" have the unique privilege of the god's undying devotion, driven to its logical and self-destructive extreme. Invictus would literally do anything for their friends, up to and including destroying the entire fucking planet on command. There is nothing they would refuse to someone they consider a friend. Additionally, hurting someone that has befriended Invictus is worse than a death sentence—the god will not just let you die for your transgression: they will torture you until you beg for death and then continue until you're nothing more than an empty husk, and only when they have extracted that last drop of exquisite agony will they allow you to die.

If you touch them, you'll lose more than just the body part that made contact.

Notes
  • Most of the time, they keep all but their main two eyes closed. Many eyes are associated with holiness on Eordan, and they don't want to give themselves away.
  • Their mane turns black when they are asleep or unconscious.
  • Their many eyes are not squishy, they have a hard surface. If you're really feeling like dying, you could try punching one, but it wouldn't hurt them and they'd kill you for it.

Destruction

Invictus is god, at least for the world of Melapia, which they helped to make. They have immense powers of destruction, and a preference for fire and brimstone as their medium. They are wholly capable of planetary annihilation, and are essentially omnipotent—their only real weakness being to the creations of mortals, which are still unable to actually do lasting damage or stop them.

Creation

Invictus' powers of destruction are rivaled only by their ability to create. As god, they have the ability to magically craft whatever they can imagine, including creating life from nothing. Invictus' preference is for land, volcanoes, fertile ground and industrious creatures to work upon it, ones capable of forging their own destinies... They are a god of change and chaos, of dropping something exciting into the pot and watching the results move mountains.

Summary

cloud.png

Fuck you and the planet you rode in on.

Goes by the alias “Invictus.”

The Other, the great Destroyer of Lazarettan faith, is not all that they seem to be. Indeed, during ancient times they created the planet together with Lazyarin, making islands in the great sea for those of leg and hand and claw to thrive upon even as Lazyarin filled the ocean with sea creatures uncountable. Eventually, however, Lazyarin grew greedy, drunk on the worship of their creations, and set their sights upon Iramal’s lands, aiming to sink them into the depths and take the entire world for themselves. Iramal fought and defeated Lazyarin, but with their last breath before they sank into slumber they trapped the lands’ creator within the core of the world, only able to exert their influence through the volcanos that reach deep into the magma that Iramal sleeps within. The Other influences folk that live near these volcanos via their dreams, incomprehensible and twisted by the entity’s own tormented slumber. Neither Iramal nor Lazyarin were actually involved in the great war between Hawser and Dromond, and both god-beings have been hibernating since their ancient battle. Upon waking, Iramal discovers that Melapia’s understanding of the origin of their world has been utterly corrupted by time and the transience of oral tradition, and is filled with rage. Their goal, should they be left to their own devices, is to gather followers from the cultists that have quietly worshipped The Other through their dreams and then to do what Lazarettans believe them to have done so long ago—boil the oceans, rend the planet apart and start anew, giving dominion to their beloved followers and casting all else to the wind to perish.

Iramal and Lazyarin are both completely invulnerable to natural or magical sources of damage, healing, or enchantment that are not divine in origin, though both can be hurt or affected (but not killed) by weapons and tools crafted by the hands of mortalkind. The shackles binding Iramal to their tormented dream-sleep are made of mortal-forged iron divinely enchanted by Lazyarin themselves, for example. Lazyarin had them crafted by their mortal worshippers before they began their attack on Iramal, and used them to lock Iramal away when it became clear Lazyarin could not win against them and was defeated. Lazyarin cheated in the last moments of their battle by pulling this trick. Iramal is not happy about it.

Anything you can do, I can do better.

In this continuity, Invictus won. They got what they wanted, and annihilated Melapia. They made a new world: Eordan. A place very much like our modern Earth, but with magic, and many different races. After they built their fun new sandbox, they waited, and watched, and then... grew bored with watching.

So they decided to play in the sandbox. Kicked down a couple of sandcastles and built their own. Invictus manifested on the planet anonymously, incognito, and then bought and remodeled a casino/nightclub in New York City. It's called Incipimus Denuo. The building is very gothic in architectural style, both interior and exterior, and it quickly became very popular.

It is also a front for the most powerful faction of organized crime in NYC, headed by Invictus themselves. They have fun with it.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Their appearance is entirely an affectation. They look how they do by choice.

Thinks carcinization is really fucking funny.

Doesn't have a particular taste for mortal flesh, but would eat it. An acceptable blood sacrifice.

They'll kill you if you say anything positive about Lazyarin in their presence.

If you must give them a title, they would insist on "The Betrayed" rather than the ones mortals have applied to them.
