Nidhogg

• He is a story antagonist; and is generally a horrible person. 0/10 would not recommend. He doesn't really have much in the way of redeemable qualities.

Ruthless and cold, Nidhogg is great at coming off as charming and well spoken. However, he is extremely manipulative and cruel, and the only one he cares about is himself. 

He is aggressively ambitious, and won't stop until he's the most powerful entity in existence, and he very much doesn't care who or what lies in his way. He's aggressive and asking for his mercy is a moot point because it simply never existed.

He has a massive ego, and those who go against his wishes or disrespect him in anyway will very quickly meet the brunt end of his temper and all the pain he can dish out that that entails.

Nidhogg was born as the first mortal in his realm. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem- but he was the first mortal born after the last god was born. Since then, he's always harbored a deep bitterness and resentment that he was not himself, a god. He was power hungry and ambitious, and for a very long time bided his time. Sulking in the shadows of the gods who ruled the lands above while he dwelt in deep caverns below.

When he finally struck, he attacked a god of a small island country. Empowered by his rage, he overthrew this god, stealing the god's power and taking control of the country as his own. The other gods were concerned, but the god killed had been weak- and this was regarded as 'unfortunate'. They carried on and ignored the situation. For many years, the dragon was appeased. Able to rule his country as he pleased. He didn't particularly care if the inhabitants were happy or not- all that mattered was that he was in power and he was the one being worshipped. Eventually, the residents entirely forgot that there had been a god before Nidhogg. He had wiped out all memory of his predecessor. He placed a curse on his land that prevented anyone from leaving to the outside world. Eventually, he hungered for more.

Diving deeps into the madness of black magic, he sought further power, and began to plot the removal of all gods. His solution if he was not to be a god? He would kill them all, and soon he would be the only 'god' left. Eventually, he put his scheme into motion. Becoming the dreaded god killer, he swept across the realm, killing the gods of each country one by one. Taking bits of their power to empower himself, and make the next one easier than before. Soon, he and his fearful followers became unstoppable. 

He ravaged all in his wake, leaving a trail of death, destruction, and dying lands falling apart without the blessings of their gods to keep it alive.

He met with no real resistance- gods fell at his hand, caught off guard by his black magic spells. Armies fell to his own- his followers were given cursed weapons and their greed drove them to cruelty. He made his way to the final remaining god- The goddess of the moon and her country of Pealania. And finally, he made an error.

He, like many, assumed the moon goddess to be small and weak. Watching over the smallest of kingdoms and never impacting much at all. However- he wasn't aware that Althaea had been training in combat for thousands of years. No one was. Where other gods had lacked and faltered- grown lazy in their days of extended peacetime, Althaea had not. She not only challenged Nidhogg- but won.

This greatly bruised not only his ego, but inflamed his anger. 

He plotted revenge, while his new enemy combatted the fear he spread with a wave of hope.
