Carob

Carob wouldn't say that he's the total doctor sterotype: quiet, keeps to himself, prefers to be with his medicine rather than his pridemates. But... he's 99% sure that everyone thinks of him that way.
         To be fair, in his defense, things haven't always been peachy keen for him. He's had it rough, what with his anxiety attacks and other things. It makes it hard for him to be in any rough situations, and though he's fine in any medical emergencies, anywhere else it's total chaos.
         Even with his disabling anxiety, he's able to retain only a few key relationships: those of his family, his mentor Tupelo, and his good friend Slate. Slate often comes in to visit him, providing someone to talk to other than plants, who just never seem to be paying attention. She tells him all the camp news, but she knows to filter some of the less-important details out, ones that would send Carob into a full-blown panic attack. While it's different, talking to a lion with anxiety, she finds it interesting to see his view of the world.
         Carob is an incredibly compassionate lion. The last thing he would be is assertive, in any given situation. If someone confronts him, he'll just wilt. Ravah knows this, and though he tries his best to be gentle around his brother, it doesn't always work perfectly.

Carob started out alright. As a young opoki, he wanted nothing more than to be out of the nursery and into the big, wide world. He tagged along with his much more daring brothers and got involved in way too many of Ravah's schemes. Hera especially was near and dear to his heart at that time, and still is.
         But then, the attack hit. The Pride of Shadow launched a raid on the Summitfall camp, led by lions that Ichyr remembered quite well. Carob had hid in the nursery while his parents fought for their lives, watching as manticores devastated the camp. Ichyr was nearly killed for rebelling, and it was only by sheer courage and a huge amount of luck on Summitfall's side that saved them.
         That was when his anxiety started. For moons afterward, Carob wouldn't leave the nursery unless it was necessary for survival. He started keeping to himself more, letting his siblings have the fun with the ainaoas and kihanaos. It had effects on his social life, and soon the only strong relationships he had were those with his parents.
         It was only thanks to Slate that he got out of his miserable state. Soon after the attack, she was old enough to run around with the other cubs. Cowrie and Sedono joined Ravah's ranks, while Slate preferred to stick with Carob and invent stories about mystical lions that supposedly existed long ago. Carob was grateful that she was able to look past his less-stellar exterior and see the lion underneath.
         Carob started wanting to pursue medicine, and every time any of the other opokis got hurt, he would rush over to Tupelo and ask him for what he thought were the right herbs to treat the wound. Tupelo was impressed that Carob knew so much, and when it came time for Carob to move out of the nursery, Tupelo offered to train him as another hoilaona. Carob jumped on the opportunity and poured himself into learning, working hard and doing what he could to help lions around him.
