Personality

Lance has had a hard life. It's very obvious in the way he carries himself. He's intimidating in his height, but he's just as scary in his countenance.

To put it simply, Lance is incredibly neurotic. He gets angry far more easily than he should, and he shuns help whenever someone offers. He never wants to be seen as weak or vulnerable.

He doesn't want anyone inside. Whenever he lets people in, he thinks it ends poorly for him.

Background

" Once Forensic Files tries to do an episode on you, you know it's time to get outta that life. "

Lance Craven, born Grant Tomlinson, is a member of Assassins Classically Trained, Educated, and Deployed (A.C.T.E.D.). He is a firearms specialist, and ranked first in his class during training.

On February 14th, 1997, Lance's 17th birthday, he got in a small fight with his mother before leaving to spend the day on the lake shore with his group of friends. Before he left, his mother promised he would be able to open his presents from the family after dinner that night. When Lance returned home, he found the family's Belgian Shepherd barking ferociously. In the den, he found the dead body of his mother. He called for his younger sister, but when he entered her bedroom, found she was dead, as well. His mother and sister had laid in pools of blood for practically the entire day. Lance called the police, and thanks to the alibi from four of his friends, was not a suspect. For nearly four hours, Lance sat on the curb in front of his home, watching police cars and ambulances drive by, and his neighbors peer at him with remorse. He went to live with his mother's parents when it was all over.

Lance's father, Neil, was nowhere to be found. He was immediately a person of interest, and based on phone records, it was found that he had correspondence with another woman multiple times that morning, as well as many instances over the past five months. Neil was having an affair, and the only way he saw out of his current marriage was to kill his wife and daughter. Jennifer, Lance's sister, was only twelve at the time. She was killed first. Lisa, his mother, fought back but ultimately lost her life to the hands of her husband. Neil then retreated, and was being hidden by his mistress.

There was more than enough evidence to put Neil behind bars, as well as his mistress for being an accessory to a murder. But, just two days before he was to stand trial, Neil killed himself. His son would never have to stand as a witness to the murders of his family. His mistress was still sent to prison, however.

Lance said nothing during the funeral of his family members. Instead of sticking around afterwards, he took a walk around the cemetery. He read every single grave he passed, taking a moment to wonder how their families dealt with the grief. Soon, he came across one specific grave: Lance Craven. He was 28 when he died, and the grave titled him as a loving father and a wonderful son. He was a police officer. Lance had always hated his birth name, Grant Tomlinson. He kept that name on the grave in the back of his mind.

After finishing up high school, Lance attended the University of Long Beach, in California. He explained to his grandparents that he needed to get away from it all. Every time he told someone his name in his hometown, they immediately grew a face of either discomfort or sympathy. He needed to go somewhere where no one knew his name or his family. It was then that he no longer went by Grant Tomlinson; he was Lance Craven.

In 2006, Lance married his college sweetheart, Barbara "Barbie" Hansen. The couple divorced in 2014, for reasons Lance does not disclose.

In truth, Lance and Barbie separated because she found out the truth about his career. After joining A.C.T.E.D in 2003, a year after graduating from university, the organization fabricated a story to cover up Lance's real job: he was to tell people he was a correctional officer. Lance held up with lie through his entire marriage, until one night in 2013.

Barbie, a science teacher at a local junior high, had a friend from work over for the night. Justin Barnett was recently divorced, and Barbie was known for being overly empathetic. Luckily, Lance returned home right as Justin began making advances on the very unwilling Barbie. When faced with this, Lance's training set in. However, in the heat of the moment, Justin was able to stab Lance in the left eye with the small Swiss army knife on his keyring. At that, Lance strangled the man to death. With a small pocket knife stuck in his eye, Lance called his organization rather than the police. They came to his house and dealt with the body, as well as his injury. Barbie found out about the organization, and two months later, the man was handed divorce papers.
