"And what can this scraping coward do for you?"
JEALOUS • BITTER • CUNNING
A bitter, mean little man with a wooden heart. He has spent much of his life in ridicule, and what little he has, he scraped together through sheer tenacity, and a flagrant disregard for others. A hungry, desperate climber, he will take any way up the ladder, be it by taking an offered hand or stepping on an unwitting head. He will not be here, and he will not be this forever. But he's not entirely foolish- he knows he's making enemies, and this knowledge has made him nervous, and easily spooked.
But for now, he is little more than a shopkeep with dreams above his station, swindling the desperate in their time of need as he seeks a path to the top. To those few he truly considers his, he is doting, if possessive, but even those few don't seem to take him entirely seriously.
For reasons unknown, his aura is incredibly weak- to the point where it can barely even charge tablets- just one more petty mark against him. For someone otherwise so suspicious, he has taken to jumping at every oppertunity to remedy this issue, from the experimental to the laughably bogus.
Before the Fall, April 2020
Having made some very shady deals for an invitation, Balsamum managed to be a proper guest at Jay Warlowes party. He spent most of it drinking apple juice and networking to his best ability. When people started mutating, he froze up, and had to be dragged to safety by Yucca. He spent the rest of the event having a painfully public meltdown behind an impromptu barricade.
The Poisoned Truth, May 2020
Balsamum wandered around the medical camp, trying to figure out where Yucca was being kept. Eventually, Pip found him and took him to the tent where mutants were being kept. He stayed there with Yucca and Pip (and Pip's poisoned mother) throughout the night.

Balsamum is approached by Achilles Revoyi with a tantalizing oppertunity: Join her family, be her eyes and ears on the mainland (or at least in Paydo Moga), and perhaps become the man of importance he's always wanted to be.

The turmoil in Tonpelli is an oppertunity like no other, and Balsamum has seized it with both hands. While he organizes and diverts resources to the stricken island, on the return trip, he has taken to smuggling desperate tech-touched to the mainland- for a price.

Yucca
[ Stalwart Defender ] Growing up together in the slums of Paydo Moga, the two were once inseperable. While still close, he never quite got over Yucca's departure for a life on the road. Still, he looks forward to her visits, and still keeps a candle lit.
Pip
[ Best Frenemy ] An absolute ankle-biting menace, Balsa fences her goods and suffers her pranks and needling, while being more than happy to needle back. There's something cathartic in a friendship where you can just be freely mean- but where to draw the line?
Mumia
[ Only a HALF brother ] Half-sibling by way of a shared mother, Balsa has tried, several times, to cut them out of his life, along with the rest of his miserable childhood. Unfortunately, they cling tighter than a burr, refusing to entirely vanish.
Achilles Revoyi
[ "Family" ] Boss? Manipulator? Achilles has made quite the promise to Balsamum, and he is not going to let that oppertunity pass him by. He is one of her contacts on the Mainland, feeding her information about the subtle shifts in the world, unaware of the forces he meddles with.
Kabaiel
[ Friend ] An unexpected friend, Balsa still isn't sure what to make of the odd little artist, but has grown somewhat fond of him. He's become a moral-support tagalong while Balsamum tries various bizarre auric treatments, but seems to have much better luck with the side effects.
Jack
[ Bitch Friends ] Balsa and Jack bring out the worst in each other as they stew in their own negative emotions and inferiority complexes.
