Misha is a very sociable person; he loves forming emotional and social connections, often cheering and supporting people. He's independent, and although he sees no problem relying on others for help, he's able to accomplish whatever he needs by himself if needed.
He's very creative and desires freedom on top of everything – but if he's trapped in a boring, unchallenging role, he will quickly lose his patience. Misha also is often seen giving good ideas, but when it comes to follow-through them, he ends up giving up.

Summary
Misha was born on one of Shinigaya's noble families. His mother cared deeply for her social image and given that, was very strict with him regarding social habits, timing, etiquette and how he portrayed himself publicly (or in her eyes, how she did; his mother never accepted any lack of femininity or self-expression on his transsexuality). Apart from ruling his life, though, neither she nor his father made much of a presence in his life. Busy with jobs, events and personal affairs, they didn't have much time for their child, who was raised mostly by the maids. He'd get whatever he desired as long as he behaved and was quiet.
With so many rules and dos and don'ts, all Misha craved was his independence and freedom; with his caretaker's blessings, he communicated his intentions of joining the military to his parents. His mother was outraged and forbid it, claiming it'd be a scandal for a wealthy family's only child to go to the military instead of continuing the family's name, whereas his father tried to calm her as he saw how that could be a good political move.
Regardless of their reactions and rules, Misha walked away from his home, joining the military. Later on, he opted to join the Survey Corps.
Trivia
His Survey Corps horse was an Appaloosa named Kathrin.
He was homeschooled until he left to the Military.
