Profile
Basics
Marius is a young bard travelling with Bertrand Berbaum. He is the most talented musician they have, and often the songs they play are those of his own creation. He is a bit flamboyant and loves spending his money on fancy clothing and wine. He is also a huge ladies man and prides himself in his ability to get almost anyone to fall in love with him, as least just a little bit. ;) However underneath all of his outgoing persona, he is quite depressed and spend a lot of time alone trying to find meaning in his life.

About
Marius does not look back fondly at his childhood. Most of it was spent in the Scarlet Moon, a notorious brothel run by his mother, known only as Madam Vale. His earliest childhood memories are of watching women entice men into their beds . Obviously, being only a child at the time, he didn’t understand what was going on. It wasn’t until much later that he discovered what his mother’s work truly was, and began to resent her for it.
His mother hated his father, and so the boy had never met him, although he always wondered if he was much different from his mother, and if so what had he ever seen in her? Marius learned very quickly that his mother was not a kind person. She resorted to extortion and manipulation to get whatever she wanted, including lots of money and pretty things, something that she had become obsessed with over the years. Even when it came to her son she had no true love for him. To her he was only an extension of his father, just a tool.
At first his only job was to play music for their patrons when they frequented the establishment, a job that Marius was happy to do seeing as music was his escape and helped keep his mind off of everything. However, as he got older, and his mother noticed that many of the girls spoke of him longingly, she gave him a new job; to please the girls after the workday was completed.
At first it disgusted him and he hated it. He hated being used. He hated being a part of something that he had no choice in. But as time went on, he became numb, he found that not participating felt wrong. He began to seek the girls out instead of them coming to him. He also took to drinking and spending a lot of time alone in his room playing music. It was the only thing that made him feel like himself and not just a part of the brothel. Without anyone’s help, he became a very talented musician, managing to master several instruments on his own and occasionally composing his own music.
One day, he and his mother got into a massive argument, the result of which was Marius turning his back on her and the brothel, hopefully forever in his eyes. Unfortunately, old habits die hard, and even though the brothel was no longer his life he still found himself seeking out the company of women. It didn’t matter who they were or if they were respectable. It had become a part of him.
It was on one of the lonely days that he was searching for one of these women that he met Bartrand Berbaum. He claimed to be a travelling bard and was looking for new members to add to his troupe. Marius took this as an opportunity to escape from his former life, to be able to travel away from everything that held him so captive in this place. So without hesitation he offered himself. It was no decision really once Bartrand heard his music, and now Marius travels with Bartrand and his fellow bards, hoping to find some fulfillment in his life.
