Cael could remember times in their family when they lived in peace and happiness. He could sometimes see snippets of their joy, hear the choir of their laughter. A time when his father had still been sane. But then when Raon turned four, everything fell apart beginning with the death of their mother.

When their mother’s life was taken on the streets of Zikar in a shooting, their father had been distraught, and he too had been shaken. Their father initially blamed himself for not being there when she needed him, hating himself because it should’ve been him. Then when the self-hatred became too much, he found other ways to relieve himself of the burden. He turned against his children, beating and hurting and screaming at them for the fault of none.

One day, it got too much, Cael on the brink of death. That was when his brother and he left home, living on the streets, hiding from and fighting the rest of the world. They began with nothing more than themselves and the clothes they had left home with, but over time, they grew stronger and found their place among the other street dwellers. They grew in number with every runaway they could befriend and persuade to join them, and eventually, Deuce Famiglia was born with Cael at the top.
