History

Born the middle child of the Queens of Elo'vaan, Kaelan wanted for nothing for most of his life. Lazy and content to shirk his duties off on anybody that was available, he spent much of his time wandering the city streets and goofing off. Over the years he came to befriend another young boy named Eldryn--when Kaelan managed to sneak his way out of the palace, the two were nearly inseparable. It was from Eldryn that he initially learned of rumors of a coup, of plans to dispose of his mothers and their whole family.

Reluctant to believe the rumors at first, after doing his own research he couldn't possibly deny it--and worse, he had every reason to believe that his younger brother, Evorus, was in on it. Always headstrong and prone to clashing with both Kaelan and their older brother, Nariloth, it wasn't much of a stretch to see Evorus eager to finally be rid of them, much as he didn't want to believe it.

The plot moved faster than he was perpared for, however, and before he was able to find out more, it would come to pass that he was forced to fight Evorus directly. After a tense, hard-fought battle, Kaelan barely managed to emerge the victor--standing over Evorus' lifeless, blood-stained body, however, he hardly felt like it. In his last moments, Evorus revealed that all this time he had thought Kaelan had been a traitor, turning a terrible situation even worse--Kaelan had been set up, and Evorus had died for nothing.

As if on cue, royal guards appeared to apprehend Kaelan. No amount of pleading or reasoning changed anybody's mind about what had happened--even his mothers were hard-pressed to believe him. Ultimately, he was dealt the ultimate punishment for ves'dari: never to fly again, his wings were fully removed and he was publically exiled to the harsh desert outside the city.

Bereft of hope and stricken with grief and despair, he had nothing else to do but wander the desert. One thing leading to another, he managed to make his way onto a sailing ship. Disembarking somewhere on Tontulu, he continued to wander, disappearing into the jungle with no idea where he was going and no concern for his own well being.

He would be found by Ayeri, starving, sick and barely clinging on to life. They nursed him back to health, even now rarely leaving his side. While he had no intention of surviving his exile, he's now left with a strange, often miserable situation--he has no idea of what ultimately happened in Elo'vaan, and any passing travellers he presses for information seem to be just as clueless. Going back hardly seems like an option, but the not-knowing gnaws at him like poison.

Relationships

Ayeri friend

Kaelan sometimes acts exasperated or annoyed with how boisterous Ayeri can be, but he's as stuck to their side as they are to his. Though often hesitant to say it, he values their continued friendship more than anything in the world, and is endlessly thankful that they not only dragged him out of that jungle but continue to tolerate him, despite how abrasive he can be. He thinks the universe of them and can be very defensive when people are rude towards them, despite how they can very well handle themself.
