Her monotonous voice and stiff body language make her difficult to read, often relying on stating her emotions out loud, although her ears and tail can hint at her mood, waggling her tail when happy, or curling it between her legs if scared.

• Backstory:

Homeschooled until her teen years, Phoenix had a sheltered and strict education with several limitations brought to her by her father, the owner of a prestigious book publisher, and who thought he’d do only what was best for his daughter. Being capable of sensing auras even before she was able to read, the little Riolu, while not entirely sure of how to interpret things, knew something was wrong between her parents. At first subtle, but eventually, little disagreements would turn into heated arguments, insults and accusations from both sides toward each other. It was hard and painful for the child to witness, feeling guilty for these problems and fruitlessly trying to help the situation until the constant fights became unbearable. The arguments would come to an end after a rough divorce where Hawk, her father,won custody of the girl; the pain however, would linger, as the man forbade the mother to approach his daughter for the better part of her life.

Soon enough -suspiciously so-, another woman would enter Phoenix’s life, a younger, prettier and nicer mother according to her father, who later gave her two little sisters. Following the family’s restructuration, a new instructor and servant was introduced, Vincent, whose wisdom allowed the girl to move on from her sheltered life and finally begin to heal. They started exploring the once unknown areas of Jubilife City, moving to the nearby traveling routes and then the neighboring communities.

Floraroma Town became her favorite place to visit, as it was where she met the girl who’d become her best friend, Maya. Slow and difficult given both girls’ shy and introverted personalities, however, this might have been for the best for both of them. Phoenix could see in Maya’s aura the desire to approach, and the anxiety it caused her to attempt as well whenever the Riolu visited that humble flower shop. Eventually, Phoenix looked for excuses to talk to the Noibat, seeing them turn into reasons as their friendship grew. Little by little, the cloistered girl began to gain confidence, she could even be seen smiling and laughing along with her friend.

When the age for high school came, Vincent deemed it necessary for Phoenix’s development and independence to attend an actual school, suggesting the prestigious Moonflower Private Academy abroad for both the girls. Of course, this was merely an excuse to get Phoenix away from her rigid father, however, he agreed, thus making Vincent both of the girls’ caretaker and guardian during their stance at the academy.
