Keisetsu Junior High (軽刹中学 Keisetsu Chūgaku) is a junior high school in Kita Ward in Tōkyō. It was once attended by Isobe Kaede, Shiraishi Maho, and a large portion of current players in the Tōkyō area.

Uniform

Keisetsu, like most Japanese schools, has a uniform and dress code. The male uniform consists of the classic black gakuran, white collared shirt, light blue sweater and black pants. The female uniform is in the "sailor suit" or "seifuku" style. It consists of a white top with a navy sailor collar, a light blue tie at the neck, and a navy skirt.

The girls' volleyball club's uniform consists of a dark blue tracksuit with yellow and white details. The members wear white t-shirts and dark blue and yellow shorts during practice matches and often don a light blue sports bib on top. During official matches, the players wear a dark blue 3/4 sleeved, collared jersey with yellow and white details and white shorts with dark blue and yellow details. The libero has a contrasting jersey in white with dark blue and yellow details and yellow shorts with dark blue and white details.

Volleyball Club

Keisetsu is known as an elite volleyball school known all around the country, and both the boys' and girls' teams are powerhouse teams that almost always place in—if not win—tournaments. To recruit talented players, the school offers sports scholarships. They are known as teams that are always strong no matter how much the players change. The teams don't specialize in anything, but they also don't have any visible weaknesses at first glance. Because of the popularity of the volleyball teams among the students of the school, the players are treated like celebrities, and the captains are practically treated like royalty.

The training at Keisetsu is notoriously intense, which is how the teams remain so strong. However, many players quit during their first year if they can't handle the intensity. The coach of the girls' team is feared by the players for being cruel and prioritizing winning over anything else, including his players' happiness. He doesn't hesitate to call the players out on every mistake they make and pointing out every single one of their weaknesses in a harsh way. He even once told Isobe Kaede, a libero, that it was her fault if the ball touched the floor on their side of the court while she was playing. Some players in the past have mentioned that the verbal abuse they endured from him made them hate playing volleyball.

The Gilded Team

One year, the girls' volleyball team became famous in their area for having an undefeated season. The team had incredible strength, and they defeated most of the teams they played in only two sets. After an overwhelming victory in the first tournament of the year, the team became known as the Golden Team (金色のチーム Kin'iro no chīmu). However, after this tournament, one of the team's starting middle blockers and essential part of their defense, third year Yukimura Harumi, quit after being unable to stand the coach's verbal abuse anymore. The coach began to push the players harder in harder in order to cover any weaknesses caused by this. Also during this year, the starting setter, second year Shiraishi Maho, began to suffer from nerve pain in her feet. She hid it from everyone else, insisting on playing despite the pain.

During the last tournament of that year, the team retained their perfect record of wins. In the championship game, they played against Fukuchiyama Junior High. In the last set, Maho collapsed and couldn't feel her feet. She was taken off of the court and had to be taken to the hospital, where she was told she had sustained permanent damage to the nerves in her feet due to overworking them. The team continued to play but ended up losing that final set. After that, the team became known as the Gilded Team (金メッキのチーム Kinmekki no chīmu), "gilded" meaning something that isn't pure gold, but rather covered thinly with gold paint.

Trivia

  • Kei (軽) means "light," and Setsu (刹) means "Buddhist temple." Kei can also mean "firefly" with different kanji, so the team is often symbolized as fireflies.
  • Keisetsu provides dorms for its students.
  • Being a private school, its tuition fees are quite expensive. It offers sports scholarships to most of its volleyball players.
