Basics
Liel Rainier comes from a family of engineers home to the rugged planet of P5. She was born into the family repair shop, and likely learned to hold a wrench before a spoon. With a keen mind for circuitry and programming, she spends her free time drawing up outlandish concepts for assorted contraptions. Her mind runs a mile a minute and her curiosity time and time again gets the better of her.

About
Born the second and last child to Marlowe and Herschel Rainier, Liel was mostly quiet as an infant, but not aloof. She would watch with rapt interest as her family buzzed around her in the repair shop until she could finally grip tools herself. Her mother's set of calipers were the first tool she found on her own, which she'd bash into any surface she could reach, cementing "Cal" as her nickname of choice in the shop. As she grew older, she and her brother Claude would routinely get themselves into trouble - but their combined cleverness and brawns would time and time again give them the slip from the authority on P5 (most notably the Red Kings), though some of their friends were not so lucky. When Liel was a teen, a shop accident and ensuing medical complications saw the amputation of her right arm to the shoulder. While the shoulder disarticulation itself was without issue, she would find herself waking up in a cold sweat for years at a sharp phantom pain where her tricep should be. These pains mostly stopped when she and Claude completed the metal prosthetic she dons at all times now.
Scavenger's School
Liel always imagined that she and Claude would inherit the repair shop when their mom and dad retired (which, in itself, seemed unrealistic), but she had a higher calling. Driven mostly by the desire to be a better engineer and scientist, she enrolled at the Scavenger's School. Throughout her time at the school, she took as many classes as she could about science, medicine, and engineering, but arguably most importantly, she learned how to be one with the shadows. Well, it was the Scavenger's School! They had robust laboratories and workshops and libraries if only one could find a way in after-hours... just think of the projects! Liel got into her fair share of trouble and landed herself in detention a handful of times - why would they punish you for being good at what they're training you to do?
And Onwards
Chosen by the head of the Scavenger's School, Diana, to be a crewmember on a very special task, Liel is a mechanic and the resident science nerd on the Clear Sky, a ship that had been under the command of Captain Hoyt, more widely known as Crazy Hoyt.
Relationships
Altair Véspero Crewmate
Altair and Liel both attended Scavenger's School and likely shared a few classes together, but they never formally met until they received the same post-grad assignment. Altair often jokes about how the two of them are the only sane members in the crew, which has some merit.
Aubrina "Truespark" Frostwater Crewmate
Aubrina is not known for her people skills, so when she shared a plan with Liel about sneaking into the school laboratory after hours, Liel was shocked. When it went south, Liel was caught and sent to detention. Aubrina would later profusely apologize for the whole affair.
Rholind Scarborough Crewmate
As a local, Liel was a good asset to have for students from off-planet. This is especially so for curious students like Rholind. They'd often sneak off campus and share food and conversation in abandoned lots near the settlement. They continued to sneak out even after nearly tussling with some Red Kings.
