- Funnel's face is covered by an illusion created with their leftover evil magic that's activated when someone looks into their eyes, it’s not what they really look like. There’s many, many reasons why they use this illusion and its variants to cover up their actual face, but the main one can be chalked up to wanting to avoid scaring people and being found out as The Ringmaster. Not exactly the greatest look for the circus and the folks that work there if people find out it’s being run by, well, them…
- Mirrors and reflective surfaces will not carry this illusion and will reflect their true face instead of their mask. Funnel hates this with a passion that burns hotter than the sun itself but it’s not like they can ban mirrors all over the world (plus they enjoy looking at themself too much to even think about doing so)
- It is known by the circus performers and very few others that Funnel is The Ringmaster. Funnel feels it’s only fair for folks that work there to at least know who they’re going to be working for.
- Photos and videos of Funnel very rarely contain their entire face. This is because Funnels illusion and magic distorts camera feeds when it’s active, so most interviews involve them looking away from the cameras and closing their eyes to smile whenever they can’t avoid it, to avoid causing a problem with the footage. Funnel gets lucky with most folks thinking they’re just camera shy.
- In regards to the previous, because of Funnels… issues with cameras, most of the posters for both specifically their performances at the circus and the circus itself are digital artwork, a job they most commonly employ Rosé Fizz for (they greatly enjoy the way Rosé draws them and the circus). If it’s a performance that does require a live-action photo, however- say, because there are other main performers featured in -then Funnel turns to their friend, Lightning Bug, a fellow ex-Witch Cookie with a magic camera that won’t blow up from Funnels magic
- Before getting the circus together, Funnel used to work at a furniture store called Featherdown Furniture as an assembly guy in the backroom for the display furniture. While it was a job they loved and would return to if they need them to, they’ll get delightfully flustered about it if asked and prompted to talk about their time there
Interactions with Strangers
- Funnel does not enjoy prolonged interaction with strangers, mostly because they’re usually in the middle of doing something. But years in retail have made them calm and polite about it, at least
- Funnel is nice, but does not tend to entertain a conversation with a stranger for more than about five minutes. If you want to hold their attention for longer, not starting with a starstruck, “Are you THE Funnel Cake?!” usually does the trick
- Paparazzi and interviewers get even less of their time and attention, especially if they’re being accosted by them
- Funnel doesn’t like to cause scenes, but is not opposed to it if someone is coming at them or someone who can’t defend themself sideways
- Funnel is more likely to stick around for an interaction if the person interacting with them has something to say and talk about already lined up that’s not small talk or some excited want for a picture with them. Be specific! Give them a reason to be interested! Just don’t be weird about it
Friendly Interactions
- Getting to a true friendship status with Funnel is tiring, it just is. They’re a secretive and mysterious, if not just entirely SHY, person that keeps to themself and deflects the attention on them more than people would realize. Trying to befriend them and reach a level where they’re comfortable putting that label on your relationship is not easy. But it’s not impossible either.
- Funnel Cake as a friend is very different from Funnel as a big celebrity. Very different.
- A surefire way to be friends with Funnel is to ask them about their interests outside the circus and performing. Funnel will usually give a nervous, one word answer towards this question, but a little bit of further prompting and you’ll end up on the receiving end of a 30-minute rant about the latest episode of whatever Funnels has been watching in their free time
- Funnel as a friend, especially in private, is a bit of a dork. They want to listen to and talk about anything other than work and will get embarrassed about most of the topics they offer up to talk about casually. (This is because they’re fighting for their life to be #Normal, not because the topics themselves are embarrassing)
- If Funnel offers to tell you about their pet snails, you’ve entered the Friend Zone
- Funnel is very touchy! They will hug and clap their hands on their shoulders of their friends, but will stop/touch less if asked. Funnel will sometimes flinch away from touch they do not personally instigate, though.
- If you call them “Fun’” and they don’t correct you by saying “Fun-nel”, you’ve also entered the Friend Zone
- Friends will get to see a shift in the usual illusion Funnel casts over their face, a lowering of a wall that’s both metaphorical and physical. Their “normally” straight teeth will sharpen at the canines and the color of their eyes will change, sclera turning just a little yellowish and their usually oh so handsome and perfect smile looking a bit more gnarly and frightening, like it’s unrestrained. Asking them directly about these changes will result in them getting flustered and avoiding the topic, instead looking for a distraction from it.
Romantic Interactions
- Funnel has one previous romantic relationship and it Did Not End Well, a situation that was entirely their fault, so they’re scared to love romantically, but not unwilling to try.
- It’s admittedly exhausting to try and get close to Funnel in this way- even more so than trying to get close to them at all -and Funnel is aware of that. They are fully aware that they are troublesome and that loving them is rotten work, but they try their best to make all the bumps and lows and scrapes to be as smooth as they can make them while they try to properly learn how to love and be loved
- Funnel is naturally a flirt, but will get extremely flustered and embarrassed if it’s reciprocated. Can dish it out but can’t take it one bit!
- Funnel’s main love language is acts of service and giving gifts. They’re the type to pick up something they saw in a storefront because they think their partner will like it or buy their lunch for them. A big one is offering to do someone’s hair for them!
- The quickest way to Funnel's heart is through their stomach. Bring that fella one strawberry cheesecake or a baggie of brownies and they’ll be head over heels
- Something that Funnel struggles with is touch with romantic intention, especially on their face, but they also very deeply crave it. They twitch away from gentle arm touches and will freeze up when their face is kissed or their cheek is touched, but it’s something they’re working on. They want to be touched, they do, it’s just… awkward at the moment for them.
- Even so, Funnel is a cuddler in bed and will complain and whine until their partner climbs in bed so they can snuggle
- Lovers will eventually get to see Funnel's face without the magic illusion, that face being the real face of The Ringmaster. Even if their partner already knows about their past, it could take Funnel a long time before they lower their illusion. They’re terrified of showing themself to anyone, but they want to try. It’s the greatest sign of trust and love they can offer to someone…
