Kanae Sasano (笹野 佳苗 Sasano Kanae) was a first-year student from Itachiyama Academy and one of the boys' volleyball team's managers. She is currently a receptionist for a legal firm. Contents [show]Kanae is a petite girl with pale skin. She has long black hair that she normally leaves down outside of club activities. During club activities, she ties her hair into a ponytail. She has brown eyes with a round shape. She has been noted to be very cute. She can mostly be seen smiling. She can often be seen wearing her school uniform, which consists of a white dress shirt, a gray cardigan, a red bow, a black skirt, and black socks. While doing club activities, she wears a yellow and green tracksuit, and a yellow shirt beneath. Her casual clothes consist of "girly" clothes with a conservative style. Kanae is a timid and shy girl. She isn't good at talking to strangers, and she gets nervous doing so, but she warms up quickly to people. Once she is comfortable around someone, she can actually be a bit talkative. She gets nervous easily and in many situations, and she has many fears, such as being afraid of bugs and frogs. She can be a bit jumpy and skittish, and she is easily startled. She is very kind and personable, causing her to be well-liked. She is quite excitable, and she is very encouraging to her friends. She is normally cheerful, but her mood can fluctuate quickly. She is quite intelligent, and she always gets high marks in school. Kanae tries her best in everything she does, and she gets discouraged if she fails. She doesn't like to leave things half-done or only put in half effort. She is quick to offer to do things for others, even if she ends up taking on too much at once. She can be a bit of a people-pleaser, and she has problems saying "no" to people. She likes to help as much as she can, but she isn't very confident in herself and her abilities, so she doesn't feel like she makes very big contributions. Even when she was little, Kanae was never a very athletic person. Children usually have endless energy, and she did. She just chose to put her energy into things other than running around and playing. She seemed to enjoy watching the other kids rather than play with them. Instead of playing sports, she involved herself with music. She learned how to play the flute, and she found great joy in it. She even performed in recitals and participated in contests. Many members of her family before her, including her extended family, played volleyball, so Kanae was expected to play volleyball as well. After grade school, her parents enrolled her at Kitagawa Daiichi in hopes that it would help her find a love for playing volleyball. She joined the volleyball club in hopes of making them happy. She was really bad at playing, and she just preferred to watch and observe. She was often scolded by the coaches for "spacing out" in the middle of practice, though she was really just intently watching the other players. During this time, she was discouraged, but one of her teammates, Akita Midori, encouraged her and told her she would find something she was good at. When one of the coaches understood what was actually going on, he advised Kanae to talk to her parents. When she did, they understood and accepted the fact that she wasn't going to be a volleyball player. After that, she helped out the team by collecting information and analyzing their playing. She already knew a lot about the sport, so this job was fairly easy for her. After junior high, she attended Karasuno High. Shortly after the beginning of her first year, her family moved to Tōkyō, and she began attending Itachiyama Academy. After hearing about the school's famous volleyball team, she asked to becoming the manager. She began to learn from Tokura Miu, the team's manager. Kanae still retained her skill in data collection, and she used this to help her team study up on their opponents. After high school, she attended university, majoring in communications. Kanae is not athletic at all. She has a good understanding of volleyball, and she can even spot mistakes in technique, she just can't demonstrate the technique herself. Her specialty is gathering and compiling data on other teams. From observing a team's game, she can pinpoint weaknesses and strengths in their playing. Skills

RelationshipsSasano Kaori and Kōji[ Kana-nē / Nēchan || Kaori / Kōji ] Kanae is fairly close with her younger siblings. She is often tasked with babysitting them while their parents are out. Since Kōji is much more shy than Kaori, Kanae often has to make sure Kaori isn't bullying Kōji. Their antics often wear Kanae out, and she has trouble keeping up with them sometimes. Even so, she is always patient with them and does her best to be a good sister to them. She loves them very much, and they are both very fond of her. Sakusa Kiyoomi[ Sasano / Kanae || Sakusa-san / Kiyoomi ] They met through the volleyball club after Kanae transferred to Itachiyama. Kanae had heard a lot about Sakusa even before transferring, so she was nervous about meeting him. When they first met, she was very anxious and awkward around him because she thought of him as a celebrity. Eventually, she realized that he was just a normal high school boy, and he was even a bit awkward like her. Her nervousness around him went away, and he started to warm up to her, too. She always went along with his eccentricities and helped make sure everything around him was clean, so she started to rely on her. People even noted that she was one of the only people he allowed to be physically close to him without much complaint. They both developed feelings for each other, and partway through Kanae's second year (Sakusa's third year), they began dating. They moved in together after high school. Kanae often acts as Sakusa's "minder," especially when around crowds. She is the one to stick close to him and try to comfort him when he goes off by himself in those situations. He likes to keep her by him, and he does his best to look out for her. Kanae admires Sakusa for his strength in volleyball, and she never hesitates to tell him that. He finds it peaceful to be around her. He will sometimes scold her about the best way to keep herself and other things clean, but she normally just nods and does what he says. They are simililar in the fact that they are both content with just staying home rather than going out, so that's normally what they do. Komori Motoya[ Sasano || Komori-san ] They met when Kanae transferred to Itachiyama and became a manager for the volleyball team. At Miu's request, he tries to look out for her and help her when he can. Just like with Sakusa, Kanae was a bit nervous about meeting him because he was so well known in volleyball, but she got over it much quicker when she saw how friendly he was. She admires his skill in volleyball. Tokura Miu[ Kanae-chan || Miu-senpai ] They met when Kanae approached Miu after she transferred to Itachiyama and asked if she could be a manager of the volleyball team as well. Since then, Miu has taken Kanae under her wing and tried to teach her as much as possible. Kanae has a lot of respect for Miu, and she looks up to her for her hardworking personality. Miu think Kanae is really cute and friendly, and she has been trying to help the younger girl have more confidence in herself. Even after high school, they remained close friends. Akita Midori[ Kana-chi || Midori-chan ] They met in junior high, as they were both on the volleyball team in their first year. Kanae was pretty bad at volleyball and got discouraged easily, but Midori always encouraged her and said she would find something she was good at. Even after Kanae quit the team, they remained friends. After Kanae moved to Tōkyō during their first year of high school, they still talked occasionally. Torikai Suzu[ Kanae || Suzu-chan ] They met at Tōkyō's Spring High qualifiers during their first year. They both got separated from their teams and decided to wait to be found together. While waiting, Kanae admitted that she sometimes feels like she doesn't contribute much to her team, a feeling that Suzu related to. Kanae shared her thoughts about that feeling, saying that no matter where someone goes, they'll always find something that only they can do. Suzu took her words to heart and began to respect Kanae. After that, they remained in contact, and they are good friends. Osaki Himawari[ Kanae-chan || Himawari-san ] Their boyfriends are on the same professional team, so they often see each other at games and such. They even hang out outside of games. They have similar quiet personalities, so they get along well. Oguro Akeno[ Kanae || Akeno-san ] They met through Himawari, and they get along well. The two of them, along with Himawari and Miu, are a close group of friends that often hang out together. |
