Batten Down The Hatches...
Raised in a strict navy household, Waldy is a well meaning person who follows authority. He likes to believe all people are good, but he is also crushed under the pressing weight of living up to everyone’s expectations… and his fear of water, since he doesn’t know how to swim. His anxiety manifests in his uncontrollable chattering. His genuine nature causes him to comment very honestly on just about everything he encounters. Or, it did… He went through a traumatic experience on the island, one that’s robbed him of his voice for now… But he’s worked hard to develop a little language made of hand signs to communicate with those closest to him. He’s tried his best to live up to what he believes is a good person.

Wright
[ Captain ]
His leader and role model. Waldy knew he was a Captain the minute he saw him, and he was so excited to become a good crew member. Wright can be a little hard sometimes, but he's protected Waldy and the others from everything... well, almost everything... Waldy admires him so much, and whenever Wright gives him a hug he wants to cry. He wants to make Wright proud of him...
Waun
[ Big Brother ]
Waun isn't a Captain, but he still makes a great role model! Waldy likes how kind and patient he is, and he says lots of nice things about him. He feels really good about himself when Waun is around. It's enough to make him really believe in himself sometimes.
Waim
[ Best Friend ]
When Waldy found her and they were in danger... he knew he had to step up and do what Wright would have done. He sacrificed himself to make sure Waim would be ok... Even though it was the worst experience of his life, he'd never blame Waim for it. He's grateful they could become friends, and they grew really close when she helped him make hand signs so he could still talk. He thinks she's really pretty and smart and funny, and tells the best stories. He wants to be cool like her...
Waki
[ Friend]
She doesn't talk much... but he doesn't either, so it's ok. He's tried to teach her his hand signs, but she isn't a very fast learner. She sometimes hurts him when she tries to play, but he doesn't mind. He wants to look after her and show her how to be good like his hero, Wright.
Wan
[ ... ]
Wan was nice to him... at first... It was when he finally said No to her that things got bad... He doesn't like to think about it, or her... He isn't sure if he wants to ever see her again. But... Wright would give her a second chance, wouldn't he?
Wask
[ Nice Lady ]
Wask is really pretty, and looks out for them. Waldy didn’t talk to her much before he lost his voice, and now it’s hard to communicate, but he likes her. He likes having her around. Sometimes he likes to imagine she’s his big sister, or even his mom… but he would never tell her that.
Whopper
[ Friend ]
Waldy wasn’t sure what to think of Whopper when he first saw them. He wants to hug and hold them, because they’re so soft… but that feels rude, so Waldy tries not to. Waldy likes them, though, and thinks they make funny noises. He’d like to spend more time with them.
Wilkie
[ Hopefully Friend ]
They’ve only just met, but Waldy is really interested in Wilkie. He uses hand signs, just like they do! But they’re different… Waldy wants to learn more about them, and about Wilkie.
