Oleander was born when a witch decided it wanted a companion. However, he botched the spell. It called for a heart freshly ripped from a living person's chest. He was too squeamish to deal with all of the blood. So he harvested the heart of a recently deceased taxidermist named Miles Whittaker. This made Oleander be born without a soul. It is nearly completely apathetic and all of the mannerisms it displays it absorbed directly from its creator. While the witch did make Oleander for companionship, he also made it for someone to carry out his dirty work. It cleaned the blood he made a mess with during his spells and rituals, and killed his enemies with poisons he taught Oleander to make. After 146 years of serving its creator, the witch died.  It now has somehow managed to open a funeral home.

Abilities

Oleander is a bit of a tricky thing to handle if its after you. You can't kill it, and its very hard to even injure. Since it has no soul it can't feel pain or fear. Which is a little annoying if you have to look after it. It has very high knowledge of plants and concocting poisons. It is also very skilled at cooking.
It also knows how to prep and embalm bodies due to its new job as a mortician.
