Perceived as unapproachable, an aura of formality emits from Shion. They tends to be someone who spends a significant amount of time alone, engaged in reading or studying, rather than surrounded in heavily populated areas. Despite their extensive formal education, their smarts do not help them socially to get by in everyday life.
Second born child of the Takeda samurais, Shi found themself constantly competing with their brother Eito for their family's attention. Despite training in the same way as their brother, they were often overlooked and dismissed due to Eito being the designated heir. In their early years, they received private training both for swordfighting as well as in regards to academics. Resulting, they were consistently performing at a level higher than other kids their age.
At age 18, sick of their family's inequal ways, Shi ran away from home; leaving at night to avoid confrontation from their family. Once securely fleeing their home country, Shi knew it was crucial to cover their tracks to ensure they were not found unless they wanted to be. Resulting they cut their hair short (keeping it primarily tied into two buns) and created a new alias for themself; Shion.
Living their new life, Shion instead took priority in further expanding their academic knowledge. Free to study what they pleased, they continued to study various languages and cultures; becoming more well versed in the world. While not being the most financially beneficial hobby, Shion believes that the value of knowledge is much stronger than that of cash. Despite their brother's best efforts to bring them back home, Shion continually denies. Enjoying the freedom of doing whatever they want whenever they want is much too appealling to them after spending their first 18 years living as directed by their elders.
Eventually, Shion finds themself employed by the King and Queen of England. Their wealth of knowledge obtained from her previous years of studying made them a perfect candidate to educate the princess. As a result, they became a governess for the family; working diligently to provide Grace with an education. While working in the castle, Shion is extremely mindful to ensure they do not expose aspects of their past that are better of remaining a secret.

To accomplish this, they took an alias and maintained a low profile while living abroad. Due to the controlling nature of the samurais, Shion uses time away as an opportunity to lead a more normal life.
Despite giving Shion a hard time at their new job, Grace allows for a sense of normalcy in Shion's life. Taking care of Grace allows Shion to feel as if they have an important designated role even after leaving their family and previous life behind.
