Basics

Name Nova
Called Starbreaker
Age Adult
Gender Female
Race Hallowed Demon
Role Bouncer
Zodiac Scepter

Nova was always taught that serenity was far more valuable than emotions; without the interference of personal feelings, she would be able to objectively decide the best course of action. During her time of independence, she's become far less cold and neutral, but her severe demeanour hasn't changed. Her expansive array of weapons and martial training makes her overqualified to be a bouncer, but she enjoys watching the different people of all kinds pass through the club doors. When she isn't working as a bouncer, Nova is training at a gym and ensuring she doesn't lose her edge.

About

Nova's life is a mystery to all but herself and the place she came from. She was raised in a small, tranquil village deep in the wilds of Below. The town was made of nothing more of ramshackle stone houses, with no inns or entertainment to speak of. The only structure of any amount of extravagance was a temple at the back of the villgae; an impressive building made of polished stone, it stands as large as all of the houses combined. Most of the village gathered at the temple to meditate and seek peace, but the master of the shrine selected one child every ten years to train as an apprentice. This warrior would be the protector of the village, in case the wars should reach them. Of course, the war in Below was over by the time Nova was born, but the tradition of the warrior lived on.

The Student

When Nova was awakened with her mutations, she immediately gained the attention of the master. Even as a baby, the cyclops was silent and ever-watching, her large, rarely blinking eye always taking in the environment around her. When she was only a small child, Nova was chosen by the master to undertake the warrior's training. She was a diligent and obedient student, always striving to drive herself further. By the time she was a youth, the master declared he had never had a better student, and selected her to take over as master when she was of age. Nova was honoured by her master, and she would always remember that day as the best of her life. Her life was laid out before her, and she worked even harder each day to become the greatest warrior her village had seen.

The Warrior

Nova was in her twenties when her master declared she had surpassed him. Her physical strength was unrivalled, her endurance unending. Even her mental fortitude was perfectly honed and she showed no personal desire other than to serve her village. On a still and cool night, her master summoned her to the temple. He was kneeling before her, his sword - Starbreaker - laying before him. Nova assumed he would be presenting her with her own weapon worthy of naming, but instead he commanded that Nova claim Starbreaker as her own. Hesitantly, she lifted the blade with reverance, shocked at the lightness of the steel. It was a masterful weapon, inlaid with obsidian and tempered to shine - the blade looked like the sparkling night sky when swung in a certain light. Nova thanked her master for the gift and the honour, but he simply raised his hand to silence her. The blade could only have one owner, after all, and so he demanded that Nova strike him down to claim her rightful title of master.

The Outcast

For the first time in her life, Nova was shaken and uncertain. She had never defied her master's orders before, and her body and mind fought one another as she lifted the blade, ready to strike the killing blow. She couldn't do it. Her arms fell limp at her side, and she collapsed in shame. Despite her decades of training and her mastery of every weapon she'd been presented, Nova had never actually taken a life. Her master looked at her in disgust, shamed by his most treasured pupil. He banished her from the village, but sighed that she should keep Starbreaker - it was tarnished now that it had been held by a coward. Nova left without a word, with nothing more than the sword to her name. Eventually her wanderings found her to the bustling city of Asphodel. She had never seen more than a dozen people together before, and she was quickly overwhelemed by the populated city. Now, Nova finds herself working as a bouncer for a large club, living each day as little more than a directionless husk. One day she hopes to have purpose as she once did.
