Kingsley is an excellent thief -- a self-proclaimed master. He is also very competitive about it: encountering other criminals makes him take huge, exciting risks and try to steal bigger, more impressive things.

Kingsley is presently on the run after just such an occasion: he stole a trinket that Permafrost cared very much for, and now he's on the run from a furious, deadly force of nature. He could probably escape if he left the trinket behind, but that would mean admitting defeat, and Kingsley has never before admitted defeat.
