Samuel is a reclusive person. Having lived far from others and only observing pokémon and people from a distance, he has a little bit of trouble fitting in. He’s skittish and nervous around people. However, he’s a very enthusiastic and easily excitable person; it's easy to get him to talk about the things he likes and the things others like.
Samuel is extremely cautious: he never jumps in without a plan and having thought of every possible outcome, which is a strength of his, but also something that impedes him. The unexpected makes his anxiety spike, and he might need alot of coaxing to reassurehim. He’s very emotive, rarely displaying lukewarm emotions: he’s either all up or all down. He has a hard time controling his voice in both instances: he yells when he's nervous, he yells when he's excited. Samuel is ride or die: gain his friendship and trust and he’ll do anything he can to defend you, even if it means getting into trouble.

Samuel was born near a school in Motostoke, Galar. The little Galarian Yamask came to be from the meeting of two events. The college was a cesspool of negative energy felt by the students, especially shame: shame of failing a class, shame of the awkward way they were growing up, shame of being unable to bond.
The second event, and the one that truly set off the birth of Samuel, was a fake ritual that unfortunate students poured a little too much faith in. It was said that if students carved a monster on a tablet and put all their frustration, anger and focused their bad luck in it, it would seal all the energy in the slab and they would be free and successful in their studies. Thus, the group followed the steps to the urban legend in a recluse corner of the school known for being the perfect spot to cry in. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t work: however, it infused the stone carving with enough power to tether the shame around it and make it real. Thus, Samuel was born, a little shaken, with a heavy heart and a broken piece of the stone slab locked onto him.
Sam haunted the school for a good many years, now the source of whispers of a ghost haunting the school. He was sighted a few times and either run away from, or once a braver trainer attempted to catch him, but he always darted away, never letting anyone near him. He always used to watch from afar, curious about the lives of humans. They always seemed bustling with so many feelings and thoughts and stories and relationships.
One day the corner he used to call home was demolished and refurbished in an attempt from the school to encourage positive mental health and stop isolation. Samuel was left without a real tether, and decided perhaps looking elsewhere could be a good idea.
It was not a good idea. The wilderness was scary to a Pokémon used to the city, and he mostly avoided humans and other Pokémon. He finally came across Pokémon village, which he which he observed from a distance, but was approached by a friendly Metang. Unlike his other encounters with people or Pokémon, he tamed Samuel a little bit every day, approaching him more and more, inch by inch. He learned through him about dittech: it took a lot of time for him to mull it over, but he ultimately decided to take the leap. He thought about how he watched the humans go by their lives for so many years. And now, he could try and see what kind of stories he could be in.
