Samuel Tremblay (Quidam/MHU)

Samuel Tremblay (born July 5th, 20XX) is an American student from Schuyler University in the Reconnaissance course.

Hero Name: The Unknowable Hero, Quidam

Quirk: Phantom Sense
Samuel is host to 4 shadow beings; he can see and hear what they perceive. They are tied to him but can extend to explore farther than him. In the shade, they can extend farther. The shadows are not tangible.

Upgrade I
Samuel's shadows don't rely as much on sticking to shadows. They can thrive with less darkness, and stretch longer. It is easier for Samuel to focus on many different things at a time, and his headaches and nosebleeds aren’t as frequent.

Upgrade II
The shadows can become tangible for short bursts of time. They can touch and move things, but can also be touched by others, so are vulnerable to attacks. If hurt, they will retreat into Samuel to heal. Becoming tangible takes alot out of Samuel, and overexerting this ability drains him. The connection between Sam and the shadows is also a little bit more open: instead of being completely cut out from their thoughts, Sam has access to their feelings. They do not feel like a human, however, so Samuel has a hard time reading them for the moment.

Upgrade III: The connection between Samuel and the shadows is fully open: they can communicate with him telepathically no matter how far they are. They can also communicate with other people, but only if these people are within eyesight. They can choose to be heard by everyone, or only a specific person. Samuel has developed his stamina so the shadows being tangible is less taxing on him. Communicating, however, is new, and long conversations with other people results in headaches and nosebleeds. His control over the connection with his shadows is not the greatest at the moment, and he can get overwhelmed by the constant feed of thoughts from them.

• The shadows cannot interact with their environment;
• In a very well-light area, Samuel’s shadows cannot move very far;
• Deciding to divide his attention through all the shadows is taxing: he is easily distracted and has difficulty staying present, and is thus an easy target for attacks;
• Overuse of his quirk results in splitting headaches and nosebleeds
• He can mentally communicate to his shadows, but this mental link is not reciprocal.

Primary Course Focus: Reconnaissance

• Reflective hood: Samuel's hood is reflective for camouflage;
• Digital balaklava: The screen on his mask can shut itself off when he doesn’t need to emote and he needs to hide;
• Multiple vision goggles: There are 5 eyes on his goggles: one for him, and one for each of his shadows. It helps with concentrating on an image;
• Utility kit: Samuel's packs carry a various array of accessories ranging from first aid to collapsable batons for self defense and smoke grenades for stealth

YEAR 2
Samuel is a reclusive person. Having lived far from other kids his age, he has a little bit of trouble fitting in. He’s a little nervous around people, and will defensively tease people, thinking they’re bonding, but doesn’t realize when to stop. However, he’s a very enthusiastic and easily excitable person; he’ll talk your ear off about movies until the dead of night. Samuel is extremely cautious: he never jumps in without a plan and having thought of every possible outcome, which is a strength of his, but also something that impedes him. The unexpected makes his anxiety spike. He’s very emotive, rarely displaying lukewarm emotions: he’s either all up or all down. He doesn’t like to be in the lead, taking more a role of second in command. He feels confident when he has someone else’s approval. Samuel is ride or die: gain his friendship and trust and he’ll do anything he can to defend you, even if it means getting into trouble.
He hopes studying at Schuyler brings him a sense of direction and belonging.

Samuel was born in Detroit, Michigan, and is the only child of Ava Phillips and Eugene Tremblay. His parents separated when he was very young, and he was used to a life of being lugged around often. He always had trouble finding where he belonged, never really relating to his environment and feeling like a wall between his parents. The only thing he found to help with this feeling was to pour himself into studies, and try to show that he would be able to take care of himself later on, and not be a bother to his parents.

His quirk manifested rather late in his life; during the first years of his life, he developed an immense interest for cinema. He believed he was quirkless, and he was happy to dedicate his time to his interest. He didn’t have many friends, none permanent at least, so being engulfed in stories brought him joy. At the age of 12, his quirk manifested: four shadows grew from his own, and at first they just stood there and watched him. He was very afraid, and tried to make them disappear, but wasn’t successful. His father tried to soothe him, being the one who had the most similar quirk. His mother, however, wasn’t as sympathetic; she thought he exaggerated. Neither of his parents knew how to help him really, since his shadows were sentient. Samuel learned to deal with it, and ignored them the best he could. Bonding with others his age was difficult when followed by four silent figures, and he became closed off and retreated to the internet.

It was online that he met Ezechiel Gélinas. They befriended each other on social media and were long-distance friends for many years. His friend's studies sounded so exciting, and using one's quirk for good, wasn't it the ultimate story? Samuel decided to join soon after Ezechiel applied to Schuyler, moving to Montpellier, Vermont, to intern with pro-hero Nightwatch, who was Arthur Gélinas' (Ezechiel and Clarimonde's father) teammate when he was alive. Nightwatch was ready to fulfill any favour from the Gélinas family, after all they've been through. A combination of his internship and his excellent grades opened the doors to Samuel, even if he was nervous after the Summer attacks. But how could the same thing happen a second time, right?
Hopefully hero work could be what he needed in his life after all this time.
