[Appearance]

Overall descrption: River is a short silver tabby tom with pale green eyes. Despite his height, everything about him is long. From the large ears that frame his pointed face and the proud nose which sits boldly upon it, to the plumed tail that follows in his wake. Lithe and wiry, he seems to flow instead of simply walking. When he's not tense with worry, it's clear to see that he was built for grace. One might notice that he has trouble with his left hind leg, limping slightly as he avoids putting weight on it. This doesn't mar his natural elegance.
He has medium-long fur, with it being more noticeable on his neck and tail. Pale grey makes up the majority of his striped pelt, though there is a decent amount of white. Two broken rings of white surround his eyes, and all around his neck and along his stomach, the lighter fur dominates. The lower half of each of his legs are also covered in this white fur. Stripes cover River's pelt, that begin from his head and go all the way to the tip of his tail. Those on his head and face are relatively thin compared to the ones that run along the length of his body. Grey speckles, that are slightly darker than his stripes, run along the top of his head, back, and topside of his tail. Those, along with the crow's feathers which sprout from his shoulders, seem out of place on one of his kind.
His pelt is decently groomed and the fur is silky, though one can tell that he doesn’t spend any more time than is needed on it. It sticks up at odd angles where he hasn't bothered to smooth it down.
The smell of something like damp earth clings to him. It brings thoughts of wintry waters, just shy of freezing over. It's mild and cool.

[Personality]

[Traits]

[Steadfast + Loyal + Observant + Honest]
[Curious = Solitary = Protective = Driven]
[Anxious - Cold - Stubborn - Selfish]

[Positives]

+ Steadfast resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering River is not easily swayed from the paths he chooses. Having made a choice, he intends to see it through to the end. This is, in part, due to his dislike of the unknown. If he changes plans, what unpredictable thing will happen now? Though, really, he seems to be like this because it just makes the most sense to him. Why spend time jumping from one thing to another? He probably believes that his time is best spent on a few things of interest, so he can better understand and invest in them, rather than flitting from one thing to the next.
+ Loyal giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution River holds firmly to whatever he chooses as a worthy object of devotion, standing fast to it. He doesn’t stick by anyone or anything he comes into contact with. Only the things that really get his attention - that make him incredibly curious - catch him almost like a snare. In spite of his anxiousness, facing hardships and uncertainty won’t be enough to put him off staying by someone or something he has decided to stand by. In fact, the troubles that may come from sticking with the person or thing are likely to strengthen his resolve. He is more inclined to believe that nothing worth having comes easily (or someone else would have taken it). To River, abandoning the things he has invested in brings up the possibility of losing it entirely. That’s a lot more terrifying for him than facing something difficult.
+ Observant quick to notice or perceive things With his curious nature, it’s only natural that he’ll also be observant. River wants to know about the world, and is unlikely to let even the smallest things slip his notice. Even his fear of the unknown compliments his natural knack for observation. What better way is there to learn than by being aware of one’s environment? It's easy to imagine River always having an eye (or an ear) out for new, interesting things. This cat will rarely let his guard down even when revisiting an area he’s familiar with. If there’s something new to discover, he wants to be the first to find it.
+ Honest free of deceit; truthful and sincere River doesn't see what there is to gain in lying. As far as he’s concerned, it just obscures the truth and knowledge he’s trying so hard to find. Even when he might gain something from lying, it doesn't seem like something he would consider until all other options were out of the question. He generally takes others at their word because of an assumption that others see things in the same way he does. His expectation of honesty won’t necessarily make him easy to fool, however. He’ll probably notice when the things others say don’t line up with (his) reality and piece things together from that.
He could become a reliable source of information for his peers. His honesty with others might work as a counter to his cold nature for those who value that in their relationships.

[Neutral]

= Curious eager to know or learn something This tom’s dislike of what’s unknown clashes with, then feeds into his need to learn. He hates what he doesn’t understand, but he’s also drawn to these things. He loves the feeling of gaining new knowledge and insights into the world. Though he might have an area he has established as ‘home’, he might not frequent it or stay long whenever he did end up back there. The allure of gaining new knowledge is strong for this tom, overriding even his fear of things that are new. To him, everything that can be learned must be learned, and everything that can be explored, must be explored. He wants to know everything.
= Solitary a recluse or hermit Generally very comfortable with himself, this cat would be happy to spend most of his time without the company of others. He is very withdrawn and introverted, preferring to spend most of his time quietly thinking about things or exploring the world. With others around they might be able to help with that, but they are not necessary. River will most likely see them as obstacles getting in the way of his learning. If that were to happen he would come to dislike having others around him and seek to actively avoid their company. One of the perks of this introversion may come about as an ability to think deeply about himself. He may not be very emotionally aware but, given enough time for himself, he may be able to figure enough out to get by.
= Protective having or showing a strong wish to protect someone or something River likes to hold what he considers 'his' close to him, be that people or things. When it comes to others, it's their safety and well-being he's concerned about. Like most, he doesn't want to see any harm come to those he's invested in though he can go about preventing that in a very one minded fashion. For River, losing others (or even things) could be seen as him losing a part of himself, since at that point, he’s likely to have invested quite a bit of his time and other resources on them. And who’s willing to lose something like that? His want to stay close to those he's interested in could lead to him treating them in a possessive manner.
= Driven (of a person) relentlessly compelled by the need to accomplish a goal; very hard-working and ambitious River has... a somewhat obsessive view of his quest for knowledge. He sees learning about the world as his life’s calling and he isn’t the type of cat that is happy to leave a task unfinished. Though his unrelenting nature is most obvious when it comes to his thirst for knowledge, it wouldn’t be uncommon to see it manifest in other areas of his life. He is the type of cat that would overwork himself while scorning others for not trying as hard as him. He dislikes being left with nothing to do, and he loathes the feeling of having a task he has yet to complete looming over him. It is not all bad, though. This need to work means that one can be sure he’ll complete a task he’s been given, and that it will happen in a timely manner. River may be obsessive, but he knows how to get a job done.

[Negative]

- Anxious feeling or showing worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome River likes things to be certain; he doesn't like not knowing what will come next or having his predictions proved to be wrong. So pretty much anything that’s out of his control can make him feel uneasy. Unfortunately, most things in life are out of his control - or at least, the things he tends to focus on are. This doesn’t couple well with his curiosity and need to explore at all. He’s anxious to learn, but also terrified of new things. This could have him in a kind of constant back and forth between wanting to stay with what he’s already comfortable with, and also longing to travel and learn about the world.
- Cold lacking affection or warmth of feeling; unemotional He isn’t very interested in dealing with the changeable world of emotions. Learning one thing doesn’t seem to be of much use when they’re so malleable, and there seem to be contradictions at every turn. Because of this, River doesn’t spend much time or effort in understanding his own feelings or those of others. This can make him come across as unfeeling to some. It’s more a case of neglect rather than avoidance. Though important, paying attention to emotions doesn’t keep one fed, clean and watered. And there are many other much more interesting things to keep his mind occupied. Who has time to find out why that cat is side-eyeing them? If they had a problem, they’d say it.
- Stubborn having or showing dogged determination not to change one's attitude or position on something, especially in spite of good arguments or reasons to do so Sometimes, River holds a little too firmly to the things he invests himself in. This is likely to come up because of a decision he’s made. He thinks his decisions through and probably won’t be so happy if others try to tell him that he needs to change something. Change isn’t something River likes - he only goes after it out of necessity, since change means the possibility for unexpected things happening is greater. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him take his decisions with him to the grave (and have that decision be the thing that leads him to an early one).
- Selfish (of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure Before anything else, River lives for himself. If doing something will get him closer to his goals, that will be the path he chooses. Being less emotionally aware, he is unlikely to sacrifice his own wants and needs for the sake of others, unless he can see how he'll benefit from it. He doesn't care so much about how others view him and is most concerned with how he can gain knowledge and live to keep doing that. This can go as far as him harming others to get what he wants. If that's the best way to get to the next step in his personal journey, he'll do it, and believe that he's justified in doing so.

[Other Trivial Things]

- Often licks his chest when nervous
- River's an INTJ-A (and I'm INTJ-T). That was a surprising find as it wasn't what I was planning. We're also nothing alike (in my mind) so it'll be really interesting seeing how he develops
- Following what I found above, I thought I'd do his enneagram too. River is a 6w5 (I'm 5w6)
- This is the voice I think of for him
