Elijah "Eli" Inkwell

Elijah is a kind and ethical Pokemon professor, doing his utmost to ensure that every pokemon in his facility and especially under his specific care, are comfortable, safe, and happy. He refuses to study or do extensive testing and research on Pokemon unless they are relaxed and calmed. Within his small town, Elijah is very much loved by the residents, and he also takes up being the town's part time "doctor" as he often helps to recover pokemon that are sick or injured. Elijah is very much invested in pokemon welfare and the study to understand them, so much so  that he's endearingly called the "Pokefan Professor" by the people of his town. 

Despite this, Elijah has quite a dark history. He was raised in a family that was deeply involved with Team Rocket. He got involved with Team Rocket firsthand at the very young age of 6. His parents were quite willing to sacrifice him to Team Rocket's evil clutches, and had neglected him otherwise. He did his best so that his younger sister, Delilah, (Age 2) would become more unnoticed by his parents, therefore, reducing her involvement with them, and avoiding her fate of being within Team Rocket's grasp. As such, he unhesitatingly did whatever he could to achieve this. He became the renowned genius researcher for Team Rocket at the very young age of 12. Having done many, many immoral research and studies on Pokemon, he had hardened his heart, and was known to be cold and unapproachable. However, whenever he returned home from his "work" he would face Delilah with a bright smile and clean nature, allowing her to live normally. Even though their parents were never really home and were incredibly cold and neglectful toward Delilah, Elijah would do his best to take care of her from such a young age, and so, she never truly suspected his or her parent's deep involvement with Team Rocket, and only assumed that their family had "owed" the evil team a huge debt, as she would occasionally see team members visit from the dead of night. 

At the age of 17, an "accident" occurred within Team Rocket's lab, and all the pokemon within the facility went mad, many lives were lost due to their rampage. It was only when he was hiding from the maddened pokemon, that he had inadvertently learned that this was a planned incident done between one of his jealous assistants and a higher up within Team Rocket's rankings who felt that Elijah was becoming a little too powerful, and needed to be killed. It was then that Elijah realized that, no matter what he did, so as long as he stayed in this kind of life, he and his sister Delilah would always be in danger. So, that night he took Delilah, packed what they could, and escaped. Whether their parents would look for them or not, he was not worried, as he hadn't spoken to them in a year or so prior to this incident, and even then, it was formal, surface level exchanges.

During their escape, they ran into an energetic young woman two years older than Elijah by the name of Shion. Coincidentally, she, too, was also running from home, under circumstances she refused to speak of, nor did they pressure her into telling. The three of them quickly became close, and eventually, Elijah and Shion had even fallen in love. The three of them settled in Sinnoh, and happily lived that way for a couple of years. Eventually, at the age of 22, Shion had become pregnant with Aurora, and happiness bloomed like flowers. However, an unexpected issue occurred, and Shion passed away in labor, leaving Elijah and Delilah alone again, only this time, it was with Aurora. Elijah was overwhelmed with grief, and Delilah was filled with resentment. Unable to stand the face of “Shion’s murderer,” Delilah had left, and traveled on her own. Though Elijah loved his daughter deeply, he was still consumed by grief, and buried himself in his research, only interacting with Aurora whenever she needed to be fed or had her diapers changed, but otherwise, he left any emotional care and playing with her to his assistants as well as with Vesper and Nimbus. Without realizing, he became the same neglectful type of parent his own parents were. 

Despite this, Aurora grew into a young, cheerful and happy little girl. Though blind, and her father distant, she was a very courteous child and was very much beloved by the lab assistants for her intelligence and politeness. When she heard that her aunt, Elijah’s younger sister, was coming to visit for the first time, Aurora had been extremely excited to meet her, as she was very curious about her father, but was too shy to truly ask him, as she felt that talking with him would only bother him. Because Aurora had been raised primarily by Vesper, Nimbus, and Elijah’s (human) lab assistants, though she loved him dearly, there was a bit of a disconnect between the two, and they couldn’t truly communicate with each other properly. Aurora had misunderstood her father, thinking Elijah just didn’t like her, she strove to be a “good” and “courteous” daughter, never acting spoiled, and always being well behaved no matter what. And Elijah, not knowing how to really interact with his own daughter, showered her with many dolls and gifts despite her never asking, so her gifts were often very spread out, and vastly varied. So when Delilah, who was still bitter and filled with resentment, came to visit Elijah for the first time in years, saw Aurora’s face and her resemblance to Shion, she spat out those cruel words to Aurora when she came running up to her with a huge smile. Elijah, who was out of earshot when these words were spoken, had no idea. Because the two could never really communicate well with each other, when Elijah noticed Aurora’s behavior becoming more and more reclusive, he couldn’t get her to open up to him. Aurora had wanted to be a “good daughter” for him, so, she never said the true reason for her sudden behavior, as she knew that her father cared for her aunt dearly, and only further clammed up. And so, when Aurora eventually left on a journey with Kon at a young age, he felt that he could only let her go, as he truly felt that he failed his own daughter.
