i imagined them both as a traveling sibling duo that likes to host mini performances for money/fun. Scarecrow is the silent, imposing type that likes to let their actions speak for themselves, while The Magician is loud and proud and loves to soak up the awe and fascination of their audience.
Both siblings can do basic 'magic' tricks-- slight of paw, card tricks, etc -- but they have one major show-stopper: when their ribbons are reversed, and then slipped off, the cats' head comes off with it! There's no pain or visible blood or nastiness with this trick, however, and their head functions just like normal once removed. To put their head back in its place, The Magician or Scarecrow merely needs to place it back on its proper neck before retying their red or black ribbon, respectively. It's quite an end to their performance!
