BACKSTORY

Danica's father was an ex-smoker, however, it seemed he quit too late. He passed away from an aggressive lung cancer when Danica was young, and left Danica's mother as the sole parent. When her father passed, she felt like she didn't have a lot of control in her life. She began getting into fights at school, as she saw winning as a way of proving her will and control over what happened in her life.
When she was eight, she noticed her punches her getting stronger, but not because of her muscles getting stronger. It was like there was some energy being emitted as she punched. She practised on her punching bag at home, noticing she could generated these small bouts of pressure to create stronger forces when striking. She was careful with using this ability in fights, making use of it but not making an obvious show of it. Soon, she became one of the top fighters in her school.
After school one day, three students tried to gang up on her in a concerted effort to defeat her. They goaded her to try and attack them in hopes she would make a mistake. She became mad when one of them insulted her mother, and she sent a pressure wave at him so strong that it sent him flying back into a nearby shed. Another student nearby saw and pulled her away from the fight while the other students were confused before she could do anything else. Initially, she was livid had having been interrupted, but the boy who had pulled her away, who called himself Wren, suddenly showed her his outstretched hand with some sort of black substance coming out. Wren was the same as her - having special powers. She calmed down and talked, finding they had more in common than just unique abilities. Soon, they became good friends, and eventually best friends. The two hung out a lot and would often help each other practise with their powers, like sparring each other. They agreed to keep it a secret between them.
One day when they were around twelve, they were hanging out at Wren's house in the evening when a group of soldier-looking people broke in. A fight broke out but Danica and Wren were quickly taken down and sedated, being taken to some unknown facility where they would spend most of the rest of their teenage years. There were were made to demonstrate their abilities and undergo various tests. Sometimes testing out a drug, or undergoing a procedure. For the next years, Danica was stuck in the lab, doing whatever task or test the scientists wanted her to do. Over time, she became more proficient at using her ability, creating even stronger waves with each of her punches or kicks. There were other lab subjects like her too, but they weren't really allowed to interact much.
When they were 19, there was a sudden riot amongst the experimentees and an explosion allowed many of them to escape from the facility, including Danica and Wren. They returned home to find their parents, but found out that their parents had actually agreed to let them be taken and were paid off by the institution with a lot of money for their co-operation and discretion. Obviously, their home was no longer what they thought it was and they couldn't return there. So instead, they travelled together to try to find somewhere to settle. Danica realised they would always be running away from the institution agents who tried to re-capture them to take them back for experimentation. She decided to start amassing allies, finding other people like her who had supernatural abilities. This lead to the creation of Tempest, a "freedom fighter" rebel group that bombed and terrorised these kinds of institutions and help freed the inmates. She was heartbroken when Wren eventually betrayed them and returned to the institution voluntarily to join their operations. They meet sometimes when the two factions clash and she has not given up on trying to win him back again.
