vincent

his family is all a part of or serving the delegation. as a child, vincent was immediately put to work, being forced to learn how to fight and use weapons at a very very young age. along with this, he was expected to act perfectly and obey his family members. even one mistake or clap back would cause him to receive punishment. his family was more focused on producing soldiers for the delegation than they were concerned with raising children. his parents would often promise love as a reward for obeying, and they would ignore their children otherwise. along with this, vincent would always be competing with his two older siblings, who would also abuse and berate him.

tired of the abuse, vincent eventually runs away when he’s 12. lost in the glow of neo-detroit, a lady finds him and takes him in. he learns what being loved is truly like, as this lady becomes like his mother to him. vincent lives the life any normal kid gets to while under her care, not worrying about living up to insane expectations or anticipating the next punishment.

vincent meets damien a year or two later. damien is loud, wild, and all things vincent doesn’t allow himself to be. vincent is often the voice of reason while damien is the rash one. when damien is kicked out by his parents, he lives with vincent and his mother. 

then, vincent’s mother dies under mysterious circumstances (;)) when vincent is 17. the person who taught vincent how to be a human, not just a product made to serve. as much as he hates it, he slowly recedes back into his cold, emotionless state. not even damien could reach him at this point. just turning 18, vincent is approached by his biological father under the guise of good intentions, but he uses vincent’s vulnerability to unofficially recruit him back into serving the delegation with the promise of being a better father to vincent. instead of being at home, vincent would often be out training and doing his pseudo-job. he brings in money so that he can keep his adoptive mother’s apartment, as he can’t bear to have someone else rent it out. under this pseudo-job, vincent is also forced to kill for the first time by his father, who claims vincent needs to be numb to the pain of killing to keep his job. in this sense, vincent serving the delegation is his only way to possibly have a relationship with his biological family, and he so dearly craves it, especially after his adoptive mother died.

vincent’s father continues on, manipulating vincent into believing that he needs to cut all ties outside of the delegation in order to truly become an official detective. this is where the idea arises for vincent to fake his death. 

the plan is that vincent would enter the bank and escape just in time for the explosion to go off, but the bomb ends up going off early. vincent, badly burned, is sure he’s going to die. his leg and eye are gone, and his vision is blurred by blood. pain overtakes him, and he passes out. fortunately (?), the delegation drags him out and saves him.

vincent heals up for a few weeks (definitely not enough time) and he receives a prosthetic leg and headgear. vincent tries his best to avoid the urge to just run back to damien, so he begins to take on smaller cases within neo-detroit. this is where vincent meets zak, tackling a small case regarding a criminal who has been robbing bars. both of them get drinks together, and one thing leads to another… what a perfect distraction.

vincent starts being able to handle bigger cases, and he gets assigned to a case to find and arrest the infamous criminal ‘deadbolt’. the only thing known about deadbolt is that he kills other criminals, and he has bright neon green hair. not once does vincent think that the killer could be damien until he’s holding up a gun to damien’s face. in a slight moment of hesitation and weakness, vincent lets damien go, trying his best to ignore the stab in his heart at the look of betrayal on damien’s face (as if he doesn’t fucking deserve it). afterwards, vincent beats himself up over it, not sure if he feels good about letting damien go or if he should have just arrested him.
