protag of HLVRAI: Experimental Build. got kin-assigned gordon freeman by a potentially-cursed video game and now is experiencing an eternal identity crisis. he's learning how to deal with it. ...sort of. .........it's not really working out for him so far.

i also play him in a Monster of the Week campaign! turns out getting his sense of self overwritten & becoming friends with a bunch of AIs is going to be the least of his problems.

john is constantly Stressed. he's tired, he doesn't want to be here, and he just wants all of this to be over already. he's learned to roll with things, but life seems intent to throw him into the deep end and he's not quite sure how long he can keep this up. he's very vocal and is pretty much an open book, despite his best attempts to appear Normal because if anybody asks him what's wrong he's going to implode into a black hole of brain hell.

his experience with the experimental build of half-life vr has fucked him up royally and he's trying very hard to not think about it! he has difficulty remembering who he is, and after losing his arm in-game he struggles with reminding himself that it didn't happen in reality... even though it definitely hurt like it did. when stressed, he lapses back into "gordon mode" until either something snaps him out of it or he's able to ground himself and remind himself of who he is.

his best friend, Az, is an eldritch abomination that retroactively inserted themself into his life so that he wouldn't be suffering through this alone. john currently has no idea and is trying to hide his trauma & the details of his experience from them because he's pretty sure everybody is going to think he's insane, despite the fact that (in motw at least) everyone in castow is weird as fuck on some supernatural level. to be fair, he doesnt know that either because he missed out on all of the wack shit by isolating himself for months until finally working up the courage to re-enter society.
