Summary

♫  Compassionate, blunt, reckless  ♫

An upbeat, jaunty young man who just so happens to love loud rock music and taking risks.

Appearance

Roman is a slim, reedy young man- and a rather pale one, as he loses his Australian tan to the English cold. Being on the shorter side, he always tries to let his hair and fashion choices make up for his height. He has thick, fluffy honey-blond hair that is near impossible to style, so he just lets it grow how it likes. He's very proud of his sideburns, even if they're on the small side. He has a sweet face, with wide green eyes and long eyelashes. He has a small gap between his front teeth (diastema). He has slight freckles all over his body, especially his back, thanks to his many years under the sun. He usually wears cheap T-shirts with goofy slogans/graphics, flares or plain jeans, and brown riding boots to give a boost to his small stature. He is 5'3".

Personality

Roman has an incredibly kind, sentimental soul, but is also quite the spitfire. Though he is a sweet and gracious young man, he has a twinge of playful wickedness to him. He doesn't like things to be too serious, and he has trouble holding down multiple friends and can struggle with family troubles. That isn't to say he's too infantile to understand the depth of emotion- he is a very emotional person, and empathises with people easily, but sometimes has difficulty helping people and dealing with emotions in a sophisticated way. As a recently-turned adult, he may still have puerile qualities like these, but he hates being seen as immature and incapable of making his own choices/decisions. He's also a bit of a flirt, and picks up easily on people liking him. He's a constant source of optimism and is always up for anything fun, no matter the risk.

Story

Roman's story takes place in the mid-1970's in London, England (specifically 1976). A recent immigrant to the country after leaving his home country of Australia, Roman is trying to find ways to fit in with the scene, and try and make his living off of music.

Roman was born in Melbourne, Australia on September 27, 1955. His father, Alfred, was an office worker, and his mother, Vera, was a clerk at a department store. He has two siblings, and is the youngest of them. His elder brother, Stephen, was born in 1949, and his elder sister Christine was born in 1951. The Murray family lived in a bungalow in the suburbs of the city, with a big backyard for the kids to play in. Roman was brought up Anglican, and his family were regular churchgoers. Roman always found Sundays to be incredibly boring.

Roman was a cheeky student, to put it lightly. He was much more street-smart than book-smart. In his childhood, he had a penchant for mischief, and was more often than not under scrutiny by his teachers. He certainly wasn't a stranger to the cane, either. Although he was a small, shrimpy kid, he wasn't bullied outright often since he was known to fight back. He managed to scrape by in his classes all through primary school, often thanks to his parents or siblings stepping in as make-shift tutors when schoolwork was due. He put much more of his time and concentration into playing cricket, or getting into scraps during breaks.

His time in secondary school was largely the same, except that Roman switched his focus from sports and schoolyard scraps to social life. He quickly and easily made friends, and even got into (short-lived) relationships with a handful of girls. He didn't care much for the education part, choosing to slack off or skip classes as much as possible without getting punished for it. He left school at fifteen after completing Year 10, getting a job at a local pub and trying out a few odd jobs here and there. Roman had decent marks, but was uninterested in getting an Higher School Certificate and had no intentions to go to university.

Around the time Roman turned sixteen, his sister took him to a local gig at an underground venue as a birthday celebration. Little did he know that this would be the inspiration for his wanting to be a musician. Roman had always been infatuated with music, and had seen his fair share of acts while working at the pub, but it was a whole new level seeing people performing and dancing live like this! He was mesmerized by the bands, especially the guitarists. Upon getting home, Roman quickly began devising a way in which he could get his hands on an electric guitar of his own.

At seventeen, Roman finally got his wish. It had taken a year of hard work, but in early 1971, he pooled his earnings and bought a Stratocaster second-hand from a music shop. At this point, he still didn't even know how to play guitar in the first place, but it didn't matter- he knew he would learn. To avoid upsetting his parents, he would hide the guitar under his bed, and practiced at various friend's houses/garages since he didn't have an amp.

Roman moved to London in the autumn of 1976 for a multitude of reasons. He wanted to live somewhere different from Australia. Melbourne was a great place to live, and it suit him just fine, but he was getting bored of seeing the same people at shows and thought there would be minimal prospects of forming a band. He was anxious to be able to practice at home and not be scolded by his parents for his decisions- and be able to express himself more freely.

Without a concrete plan of what to do with his new start in England, Roman spent his time busking and trying to find work at various pubs. He lived in a hostel for a while. A few months in, Roman met Val one day, when they were both standing on the platform in Euston. Noticing each other's guitar cases, they got chatting. Roman had actually previously (and briefly) met Val, who gave him £2 while he was playing in Finsbury Park. Recognising him, and getting excited over the fact he played guitar as well, the two quickly bonded. They went to a pub together that evening to have a chat.

Roman met Val in a train station in London, when the two were both carrying guitar cases. They quickly got talking, and became close friends after a short amount of time. The two plan to form a band together, and hope to make it big. They may be in a relationship...?

His Family

Roman used to live with his two parents, and his siblings Stephen and Christine. He gets along well with his siblings, but sometimes feels a little inferior to them. His parents were generally supportive and kind, but Roman would get annoyed with their seemingly small world view and constant tutting at his tastes in fashion and music.

Trivia

  • He doesn't drive very often, but he would occasionally take his dad's car out for a drive back in Melbourne. He'd love to own a motorcycle, especially a Triumph.
  • He plays a bright red Fender Stratocaster. He bought it with his earnings in 1971, and kept it a bit of a secret from his parents so they wouldn't be outraged and break it. He practised in private, often at a friend's house, or when his parents weren't home.
  • He keeps a cassette recorder and a notebook by his bed, in case he ever has a dream about a fantastic song idea.
  • He's quite a fan of marijuana.
  • His zodiac sign is Libra, and his lunar zodiac sign is Wood Goat.
  • His faceclaim is Leif Garrett, and his voiceclaim is Jordi Davieson (San Cisco).
