Merle is an Esk, which is a semi-open species by Witherlings! There is a Deviantart ARPG group for them. The official Esk website has more information about the lore of Esks (as well as a more detailed list of their design rules.) I drew inspiration for Merle's design based on the plague doctor mask, crows, and magpies.

- Esk do not have mouths, ears, paw pads, or nose structures.
- Esk have three toes.
- Esk are never humanoid or "anthro" in appearance.
- Esk do not have external eyelids (So she can't close her eyes).
- Merle's nature feature (the plant that grows on her) is the Euphorbia milii. The nature feature only vanishes from her body when she strays very far from her home.
- Merle's about the size of a small red fox or a housecat.
