Born in a noble family, Cailan was pushed to become a paladin for the sake of his kingdom, Angaar. From a young age, he trained to be an adept fighter by one of the most powerful men in the country, his father Choy. His childhood was filled with games of thinking, strategy and battle, as well as sparring with his younger cousins, Kyle and Kallisti. He had no time to relax and have fun if it wasn't prescribed in his strict schedule.

But then, at the age of 10 something terrible would happen; his mother, Calliope, would succumb to the illness she was bearing ever since Cailan could remember her. As if breaking a curse, the young boy's life would come crashing down, realising he did nothing but ignore his late mother for what his father had deemed "more important" use of his time. Regretting his choices in life and resenting his father however, were inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, since he would soon be promoted to head executioner of the Royal Palace in the capital.

All was still unclear in his mind, as he tried to process his grief in a time where he could not afford to lose concentration, or act out of line. His father held great aspirations for him, the heir of the Meadowspark name. He even tried to get him interested in marriage which his best friend, which failed miserably for a number of reasons. Even still, Cailan was training to protect the citizens of their kingdom, condemning criminals and dangerous individuals to a surefire punishment: death. So, despite inwardly disagreeing with his father, he at least saw the value in their work as protectors of this land.

However, as Angaar started developing bad relations with Elfandor, the neighbouring kingdom, suspicion fell upon many innocent among guilty immigrants. Cailan's last task was to execute two children, twins, in cold blood, since their "spying" parents had fled without them. Unsure of this action's morality, he hesitated and ultimately ran away from the kingdom, with the two of them, striking down anyone who'd come to stop him.

Cailan made sure to leave the kids, Ray and Raya, to a respectable family of a friend just outside the capital, since he knew he would soon become a wanted criminal in Angaar. His betrayal became widespread knowledge on all parts of the land, painting him as a traitor, a thief and a cold-blooded killer.

In contrast to that, Cailan had been making his way out of Angaar, turning a new leaf in his life. He would swear never to take another life with his sword, even if they had come for his own life. Ever since that decision, Cailan had been wandering the lands in search of finding his place once more. But problems arose, since to survive he would need to steal from storage units all around different kingdoms, making him quite the local menace to every village he'd stay in.

During his journey he found an inn in the heart of the Valley of Fear, the Uncharted Land between Angaar and Elfandor, where illegal immigrants and secret operatives usually traversed to pass from one kingdom to another. Seeing the great hospitality the kind owners, Lord and Soreah, offered him, he swore to protect the inn from any evil-doers. However, since his name was known amongst even the most rural of places, the couple gave him two conditions: refraining to use his full name as he's labelled a criminal in both neighbouring countries and refraining to kill anyone, even unwanted guests.

Cailan agreed, leading him to a comfortable, all-inclusive life in the inn. He has a habit of saving lost individuals and urging to protect them despite their apprehensions, much to the dismay of literally everyone. He is rather gentle to all who he protects with an added, often questionable cheerfulness, a reassuring optimism that everything will be fine.

The last person he saved from certain doom has been a young man by the name of James. After insisting on protecting him, despite James hating the idea, he has kept a close watch on him, refusing to let him wander off the limits of the inn because he was "too weak".

In truth, James was love at first sight for him... But he knew it was wrong for it to be that way. So he did all he could to make James feel comfortable... in his own way. Training, training and more training. And water, of course! If James was to go on patrols and on "missions" he should be prepared for the worst. And just like that they grew closer to each other. Cailan didn't want to pressure him, he knew that would be-- a kiss. A single kiss eradicated all his insecurities. A single kiss he just had to give back...

Appearance

  • FOR REFERENCES, AUS AND OUTFITS, CHECK THE TAB!
  • He is a human with dark skin (my friends say it's too yellow b-but-- ;-;).
  • His hair is fluffy (realistically kinky, but I don't draw it that way because I am a coward). It is green, with a cowlick on top and a shaved part on the side and back.
  • He has a sort of triangle-cheek face. Pointy-square? You get the idea.
  • His eyebrows are bushy and thick.
  • He has round, bright yellow eyes and a triangle nose.
  • His body type is fit and buff, since he works out a lot and tries to keep in perfect shape. I draw him as a square for basic shapes.
  • His regular clothes are in warm brown tones with some yellow mixed in. His style is baggy, loose and soft fabrics.
  • There are instances of "x"s in his clothing. They symbolise something, but are not necessary.
  • His armour is made from dragon scales (strong shiny material). There are golden curvy symbols all around. The light-coloured armour has many scratches. The dark-coloured armour has small swirls (which are not necessary).
  • His gloves and belt are made out of leather.
  • He has a cape that I keep forgetting exists!
  • His sword is simple, open blade at the bottom, with a golden grip.

James

[ significant other ] James was love at first sight for Cailan. He was vulnerable but snappy; a feisty little man. After a lot of conflicts between them, they got together with burning passion. Cailan has gone through many hardships and struggles with James always there to comfort him. It seems that sometimes the "protector" must be protected too.

[ friend ] Lord is the owner of the inn which Cailan has sworn to protect. They have developed a friendly relationship, since Lord lets Cailan stay over and Cailan removes any... unwanted guests. They are dude bros hell ye.

Choy

[ father ] Cailan rarely talks about his family, much less his father Choy. He taught him about the essence of what a paladin is, which was useful! However, Choy also encouraged some very toxic ideologies. He had pushed him to marry a relative of theirs to continue the "legacy", as the only son. Disregarding his sexuality... badmouthing his dead mother... Cailan couldn't let this pass. Choy was one of the reasons why he left Angaar as a whole.
