Jenna, Bloodhound of Cainhurst
Anesvalt
Profile
Appearance
Jenna was frequently mistaken for a young man, especially when she wore a helmet or mask on her face. Her complexion is to blame; she is tall, thin, and lacking in feminine curves.
She, like many other Cainhurst descendants, has grey hair. When she left the castle, she chopped her hair above her shoulders for practical reasons, but she also liked the way it looked. She usually dresses in long coats, tricorns, and high boots. A long blue asymmetrical coat, a tricorn with crimson feathers and golden spoors became her hallmark, as well as "The Thirsty," her rapier forged in Cainhurst Castle.
Jenna also has two visible scars on her face, and she has been covering her right eye with a piece of fabric since an incident on a hunt, hiding a red eye behind it. That eye only tended to enrage people at Yahrnam and set strangers against her, and she had already had enough conflicts in her life due to her "vileblood" ancestry.
Jenna appears to the Hunter at the Old Hunter's Nightmare wearing the same blue coat, red brooch on her white scarf, and a covered eye as she did the day she died. And in Nightmare too she is still armed with her rapier and her pistol, Evelyn.

Jenna was born in Cainhurst. Her parents were from the nobility, but not from a prominent family. Her despotic mother was a huntsman and a kennel master. She bred and trained the best hounds for royal hunts. And treated her daughter just like her dogs. Perhaps even worse. She had, at least, loved and cared for her dogs. Deep scars left by various objects remained on Jenna's back forever. In the end, kennel master Moira got her alias "the Heartless" not for nothing. She hit Jenna for each mistake with whatever she had in her hand at the moment. Her father Jenna barely remembered, as he made a mistake: cheated with some young woman. When Moira found out about this, she didn't feed the dogs for days. And then her husband "occasionally walked in when the kennels were opened".
Moira always wanted to be a Knight but never made her dream come true. So she decided her daughter must do it, and punished Jenna for smallest mistakes, saying she is not good enough. And started to hate Jenna even more when she surpassed her mother. Upon becoming a Knight, Jenna started to enjoy seeing her mother bowing or even kneeling to her when they saw each other.
When Jenna was knighted, she did all she could to prove she was one of the best. She got respect and recognition, especially for her ability to track her prey by the scent of their blood. Jenna was a loyal knight, even more of a loyal dog, to the Queen. It was obvious that her mother's ways of parenting made her rather cold-hearted and violent.
While serving at the Castle, she also met Lady Maria, and she fell deeply into Jenna's heart. Jenna was well aware that she was no match for such a noblewoman. Besides, she found herself with the one she loved, Cecile Emsworth, a young lady who lived in a mansion on the outskirts of Yarhnam. She was a distant relative of Jenna's family and had some Cainhurst blood in her veins. But their love did not last as long as Jenna had hoped.
One day, members of the Healing Church filed charges against the Emsworths for their long-standing ties to the Vilebloods. The executioners came to the mansion and killed everyone who lived there, and Cecile was not an exception. Jenna arrived at the mansion not long after the slaughter happened, only to find her beloved dead. The trail of the executioner's blood was still fresh though, and Jenna tracked each of them down the same night, including those who went to a small church in the forest. She killed everyone she found at the church in cold blood, and burned the church as well. The amulets of the executioners were then presented to the Queen, and she was praised for her successful hunt. That day, she got her name, "The Blood Hound of Cainhurst", and became a renowned knight of Her Majesty.
Jenna left Cainhurst Castle not long after Maria. It is hard to tell why she made such a decision, as she never told anyone about it. But perhaps Maria was at least one of the reasons. It was not hard for Jenna to find the Old Hunters, led by Gehrman, and join them. She was more than capable of joining the Hunt. Jenna settled in Yahrnam, spent her nights hunting and her days mostly recovering from wounds. Perhaps everything would have gone well, if not for Jennas' craving for blood. She was always bloodthirsty, and she was like that in a more supernatural way: she enjoyed spilling blood, its smell, and its taste. And she quickly got attached to the beast blood pellets, which gave her an advantage against her enemies during the night of the hunt.
Most of the time Jenna had her addiction under control and her mind in a more or less stable state. Until the day she took too many pellets during a tough battle with the beasts. This choice saved her life, as well as the lives of several other hunters, but also contaminated her mind and blood. Jenna's right eye turned red when she awoke the next morning, precisely like the blood-drunk hunters'. She soon became aware of other changes as well. The Beast's voice, which she always heard within her head but could control, began to grow louder.
It was not only figuratively speaking that Maria was the only one saving Jenna from madness. If not for her, the Blood Hound of Cainhurst would lose her mind rather quickly. She was close with Maria and they were more than friends when it all happened. So somehow, Jenna managed to fight the beast inside herself. But after events at the Fishing Hamlet, everything started to get worse. When Lady Maria left the Old Hunters to stay at the Research Halls, she and Jenna had a chance to see each other less often. Because of the fear of losing Maria, confrontations in Hunter's ranks, and all the other things, the Beast started to get off the leash more often.
Last time it happened, after the night of the hunt, Jenna got confronted by some young church hunter. Perhaps Jenna would lose the remnants of her sanity after that fight. But they both fell down from the bridge. And Jenna got trapped in a Hunter's Nightmare instead of being granted a peaceful death.
Game mechanics
(Completely made-up stuff, which describes how Jenna would act in actual game if she would be an existing NPC)
- Jenna is a quest NPC, whom player can first meet in the Hunter's Nightmare in the further end of the Nightmare Plaza;
-When met there, Jenna is a friendly NPC and can be talked to. If attacked, she will warn the Hunter twice before fighting back;
- When fighting her, her NPC name is [Jenna, Bloodhound of Cainhurst].
- If missed, she will remain on the Nightmare Plaza until Living Failures are killed, and then will be an intruder at the Fishing Hamlet, near the well with Rakuyo. Her quest will be considered failed;
- If her quest is on First Stage or not started, Jenna's summoning place would be found instead of Valtr's, if Valtr is dead and his summon is inactive;
- Can be summoned in a few Chalice Dungeons as a Cooperator even after her death or quest ending;
- If her quest is in progress, she can be summoned as a Cooperator on a boss fight at the Nightmare (see 'Full quest');
- Her outfit is unique and can be bought upon successful completion of her quest for Insight (see 'Full quest');
- a few Carrion Crows and Rabid Dogs in the yard;
- several Huntsmen;
- A Scourge Beast is waiting for the player inside the main hall of the mansion;
- And the final enemy is the Bound Widow, which can be found in the mansion's bedroom;
"A small golden medallion. Use to get Blood Echoes or return to it's owner."
In the Hunter's Nightmare, Jenna can be found in the further end of the Nightmare Plaza. Upon finding her there and talking to her, she has the following dialogue lines:
Option 1: No medallion
After that dialogue, if the player has no [Golden Medallion] in the inventory, Jenna will only say the following line:
If the player has the [Golden Medallion] in their inventory, they can choose a dialogue option [Give Jenna the Medallion], which will trigger the following dialogue:
"This vile bittersweet blood grants Beasthood and restores some HP."
After receiving the [Blood of the Bloodhound] the player then opens following dialogue options:
"It is where you are now. Cursed place hiding it's secrets. And you'd better leave them untouched. For your own sanity, Hunter. Return to where you came from."
"This is our purgatory. And we deserved every moment here."
"Heed my warning, Hunter. Don't trust them, any of them, as well as those who used to serve them. No matter how weak or crippled they look - they are treacherous. Do not turn your back to them."
"Something tells me the castle still stands. Especially if you're asking about it. And ghosts of that horrible night are still roaming it's halls... Inquisitors who started this bloodshed deserve no forgiveness. If you'll meet one of them - kill them in my name, won't you?"
No matter if summoned for the fight with Lady Maria or not, if Jenna's quest is not locked, then she then can be met at the Fishing Hamlet for the last time. (If player killed her then she would be hostile at the exact same place).
