Paavan is a person driven almost solely by the urge to garner knowledge, to scour every single corner of the multiverse and devour every scrap of information. The drive to fill in the holes in the realm of understanding overrides most other facets of their life; socialization comes secondary to studying. Despite being a noble, high-ranking diplomat they have few friends outside of their profession. They’re secretly a rather doting person and an interesting conversationalist, but they simply prefer to bury themself in work rather than socialize.

They have a tendency to become fixated on topics for prolonged amounts of time; possibly a facet of autism, but they’re currently without any known diagnoses. Their longest fixation has been on unraveling the secrets of the plane of Mechanus- an obsession that’s almost akin to religious fanaticism. Despite pledging allegiance to no gods they revere the plane itself as if it had a godlike consciousness and power, but they show no sympathy in their ruthless dissection of its inhabitants and technology. They’re a savant when it comes to building and deconstructing complicated mechanisms, being able to almost perfectly visualize every step.

They’re slow to anger but easy to disappoint; a genuine perfectionist, they have a tendency to see people as pieces on a chessboard. They have a history among several groups for a callous and heartless past, one where they initiated assassinations and intimidated political enemies without an ounce of care. Despite them attempting to put the previous century and a half behind them, they still keep the dirty tactics they used in the past tucked into the back of their mind.

BACKSTORY

Born to a multiracial noble household consisting of both a Moon Elf and Genasi noble family. They grew up in the lap of luxury with access to practically anything they wanted and never had to compete with any of their 3 other siblings, but they were raised with a deeply ingrained sense of gratefulness and humility. They pursued studies in magic relatively early and were admitted to a prestigious university upon their coming of age. They were allowed to hand over their position of being the family representative to their younger sister in order to take their education even further.

After delving into studies of alternate planes they became particularly interested in lawful-aligned planes and by extension, law itself. They started a “brief” decade-long career in the court system of Neverwinter before deciding it wasn’t for them, but not before they gained the trust of the royal court for their dedication. They were eventually offered a job as a negotiator for kingdom matters before they worked their way up the ranks, becoming personal acquaintances of the head governing family. They wed during this time, to a local detective they met on business during the investigation of a dockside murder case.

They were appointed to an advisor’s position and allowed residence on the royal grounds. They were happy with their life for several years, even welcoming a child until tragedy struck when he was less than a year old. Their spouse became distant, inevitably being discovered that they were delving into necromancy. They were forced to turn their spouse in but was given the chance to exile them rather than have them jailed. They became significantly more walled-off emotionally in the coming years. They stepped into more active roles and arranged the “dirty work” for the kingdom, having a decent portion of the corrupt court system assassinated or jailed.

They stepped back from their advisory work in order to let themself be consumed by their studies. They started to fixate on the plane of Mechanus, celebrating their 100th birthday by garnering funding for expeditions into the plane. They gathered an experienced team and started to thoroughly explore everything they could get their hands on, including live inhabitants of the plane. They became experienced with dissecting and reverse engineering Modron parts.

After a particular expedition they were caught in an ambush by several Modrons, and they were forced to overdraw their magic so much that it caused irreparable damage to their hands; they were forced to field-amputate one themself. They spent the next few days assembling a working rudimentary prosthetic out of Modron parts before allowing the other hand to be amputated. Despite their injuries they spent several more weeks in the field perfecting their prosthetics before returning home.

Pithior returned to their cushy kingdom life gratefully, greatly more experienced but significantly more self-isolationist and jaded. During a covert observation of an illegally run coliseum during a kingdom aide trip they rescued a young fighter named Kaiser from the brink of death, taking him under their wing and nursing him back to health. They intended on allowing him to stay in the kingdom and were planning on enrolling him in better education, but he left to join a fringe church of one of the three betrayer gods upon maturity.

They took him in after saving him from an illegal fighting ring, pulling him from the throes of death. They truly and deeply care about him as if he was their own child, but are unable to pull him from the intense loyalty to the church of Bane; they feel that they’ve failed to keep him out of another abusive situation.
