Rue is, if nothing else, exciteable. Far from her homeland and in a strange and foreign place, she easily sticks out like a sore thumb, both in appearance and personality. She almost can't help but carelessly barge into conversations, take things without asking, and invade other people's personal space. She simply isn't socially "with it" enough to understand how her behavior could be a problem. She's just being friendly, after all! She's just curious! And if there's one thing that Rue can't resist, it's curiosity.

Unsurprisingly, Rue is quite easily distracted. Because of her restlessness, she never seems to stay in any one place for very long. Though, wherever she goes, trouble soon finds her. Her accidental rudeness causes most people to dislike her on their first impression, and her lack of self-awareness doesn't help matters. She can be a bit selfish and reckless, and her solution to most problems is to attack or run away, depending on how well she squares up to the problem.

Rue has a genuine, childlike wonder for the world around her, though. And she loves to share that with the people she meets.

Life in the Mountains

Born to the nomadic Towering Crags Clan, Rue has known 3 things for as long as she can remember 1. To travel through the Stregia Mountains during winter is death, 2. Even the harshest of environments will provide if you know where to look, and 3. Always show respect to the storm god, Talos, else suffer his wrath.

Rue got a lot of freedom as the younger child in her family (she has an older brother, Smooth River Stone (River) ), and she abused it often. Her favorite pastime was wandering off from the clan to explore the mountain paths, “looking for secrets” as she liked to say. Her twin sister, Song of Summer Birds (Song) would often tag along, usually to ensure her sister didn’t fall off a cliff or get carried away by a roc. Together they discovered hidden caves and followed faint trails left by unknown beasts, things that enticed Rue’s overactive imagination. Often the two would return to their clan with trinkets and treasures from their adventures (animal bones, flowers, pretty rocks, etc).

During one of their adventures, the two became caught in a storm and ducked into a cave for shelter, where they found a pile of treasure and other strange objects - of particular note, a small ornate box with no lock or key, with an inscription in a language they didn’t know. However, when the owner of the cave (a harpy) returned, they were attacked. Just when it seemed like they were doomed, a fierce bolt of lightning crashed down on both Rue and the harpy, sending the beast tumbling out of sight.

When Rue and Song recounted the event to their clan later, they took the lightning bolt as a sign of Talos choosing Rue as one of his own. So, once she had recovered from the ordeal, at the age of 15, Rue was placed under the tutelage of the clan’s priest to learn ways of being a cleric of Talos and eventually take her place as clan priest.
