Lockton

NAME

"Lockton"

GENDER

Male programming

AGE

5(?)

HEIGHT

135cm / 4'4" (shoulder height)

ABOUT

  • He was some kind of police-guard bot but he got captured by some unknown party and stripped to pieces. They tried to rebuild and reprogram him to be their transport bot but something went wrong and he was abandoned. Currently his memory of police bot is wiped and he's on default factory settings
  • Technically should be able to fly but since he's programmed as a terrestial creature he's afraid of heights. Forgets he has wings sometimes.
  • About as heavy as a bike. Also can carry about as much weight as a bike
  • He's an AI that learns over time. [pretty much human level intelligence at the moment, an average one]
  • Has high mobility and is pretty flexible because of his lack of armor and bigger metal plates, but it makes him pretty fragile
  • Has artificial nervous system which makes him feel pain
  • Has weird blue liquid inside him that keeps him alive without batteries or charging of any sort. This liquid is connected to the talons, which can inject small amount of said liquid into opponent's body which could be lethal. This attack however will weaken the robot, since he can't produce the substance on his own and if he runs out of it he dies. In his current memory-wiped state he's not aware he's capable of doing that

DESIGN

  • He has light patterns on his feathers (inspired by snow owl patterns). I usually simplify those a lot but it's perfectly fine if you want to make them a bit darker or lighter than on the ref, or change the look of them a bit.
  • His face is based on an owl skull. Think of owl skull made of metal if you're having trouble seeing what's going on in the mech parts of him.
  • Has opposable thumbs and is able to hold and use weapons and other objects. Could also keep his balance standing/walking on 2 legs but why would he want to do that
  • His jaw doesn't move when he speaks. It's probably mostly for grabbing things

BACKGROUND

World

He lives on an alien planet with two major human cities seperated by a rocky, volcanic area - [BLUE], mostly made out of science facilities and populated by their employees and AI, and [ORANGE], a residential place for regular people. Both cities were struggling with pest that came from the volcanic region, called ruby locust, a well adjusted and hard to kill species of bugs that seemed to constantly grow in numbers and function like a hivemind. [BLUE] tried to control their population by creating an artaficial "natural" enemy for them in the form of fully self-sustainable drones. The plan backfired though, and it turned out that the bugs ended up merging with the drones and were not only still multiplying, but also got upgraded by the tech, making the problem even more urgent as they started to heavily damage the cities, ecpecially [ORANGE] since it wasn't as heavily protected and pretty much depended on [BLUE]'s tech. The scientists of [BLUE] were able to create a weapon that would deactivate the synthetic part of the upgraded bugs and hopefully at least revert them back to their original form, but that would also affect the robots from [BLUE], essentially killing them. The robots weren't so keen on dying and humans didn't want to accept their counter-suggestion of exterminating organic life instead. A conflict broke out and most humans from [BLUE] either got killed or kicked out to live in [ORANGE], which was now in ruins due to the damage caused by ruby locust. [BLUE] cut contact with [ORANGE] leaving it in anarchy, while they focused on protecting themselves from the pest rather than fighting it, and became arguably the safest place on the planet.

Background

Lockton was built in [BLUE] as a guard or police bot. He and other bots were assistants to humans (mostly scientists), keeping peace in the cities, guarding people from this planet's dino-like animals, helping in general accidents etc. When humans came up with the electromagnetic pulse bomb idea to stop upgraded ruby locust swarm, all the robots including Lockton decided it was the time for mutiny. Lockton most likely ended up killing quite a few people to stop them from doing the EMP bomb plan and stay alive. After the revolt robots stopped being people's assistants and lived their lives however they wanted to. At some point Lockton needed to travel to [ORANGE] with a mission that he doesn't remember right now because he got assaulted by a group of bandits there and they took his armor, guns and memory card. The bandits also started to rebuild him, they covered him in feathers and wanted use him as a glider. They were about to reprogram him too, but he got away before they could do so.

Present

Yuty found Lockton trapped on bandits' territory when she was sneaking in, trying to steal their stuff. She helped him escape, and then almost immadiately they got in trouble with Cass's crew and a huge dino-monster-thing. After Lockton and Yuty proved they're capable of fighting the monster, Cass recruited them both to join her crew which they unwillingly accepted due to not having better options. Now Lockton is helping the crew with their plan of returning to [BLUE], though the way most of the people treat him make him wonder if he should even offer his help to them still.

RELATIONSHIPS

Yuty found Lockton in a garbage pile when she was trying to steal someone's hoverbike. Yuty automatically disliked him based on the fact that he's a bot and treats him more like an annoying AI assistant that won't go away. Lockton had his memory wiped when they first met, so he doesn't exactly know why she's being such a dick to him but he tries his best to work together to get out of shitty situations. Since he doesn't remember his purpose or mission, Lockton decided to stick to Yuty's side since she's the first and only person that (unwillingly, but still) helped him.

Lockton got recruited by Cass along with Yuty, he decided to tag along only becasue his memory was wiped at the time. Cass appreciates having Lockton on her side becasue of his combat skills but treats him as nothing more than an AI assistant and acts quite dismissive of what he has to say. He kind of regrets joining her.

He is one of very few people to treat Lockton as an equal instead of some sort of google assistant or helper bot. Lockton appreciates his kindness towards him, but at the same time it is noticable that Marlin is sketchy as heck and it is best not to trust him completely. At the moment Lockton is neutral towards him.

Lockton doesn't have much of an opinion about Io. There is nothing negative Lockton could say about Io at the moment. They talk ocassionally and Io is as nice to Lockton as he is to everybody else, though usually they don't have time to interact much. Io is mostly chill and Lockton is mostly serious and focused so their personalities don't overlap enough for either of them to want to interact more.

Lockton feels uncomfortable around Zenith and prefers not to be left alone with him. Zenith is on 2yo-child mental level, which is pretty smart for an animal but he can also be unpredictable and/or emotional, which clashes with the way Lockton's thinking works.

Rune and Io almost never interacted with each other even though they're now working together for the same cause. Must be awkward.
