Marbas

Marbas enjoyed the high ranks of the angels for many millennia. He guided many younger angels into their duties with care and never made a mistake nor had any of the angels under his wings fail. That was until Lixian came along.

Like all the others he helped her into her role. She was to be a guardian angel, assigned to various humans throughout the years to protect them from various evils in their way. He watched her grow into a benevolent protector just as he had hoped.

Until one day she received an order that neither of them had seen before. The human she was meant to protect no longer required her protection. It was not that the danger had passed but she was being ordered to stand by and do nothing to prevent it. Both Lix and Marbas were confused by such an unusual order. It was not hard for him to be convinced by Lix to disobey it. Together they saved the human from his fate.

This only angered the ones who had deemed it the right one.

Thrown into a battle against their own kind it was not long before they were cast out of heaven. Their pleas for forgiveness and demands for answers fell upon blank faces and uncaring eyes.

And so they fell.

Their powers diminished and their forms unable to be changed, Marbas found himself stuck as a beast. He could still talk and disguise himself in the eyes of humans but no longer would he be able to show his true form. While he had always likened the beastly look it was not enjoyable to be trapped in it.

Frustrated, betrayed, and spiteful, they joined with demons and sowed chaos for heaven. While they still wanted to protect humans, they were now able to see things from a worldly perspective. Humans were not worth saving. They bit the hand that fed them and Lix saw her kindness could only get her so far in their world.

Years passed, then centuries. Eventually the chaos died down. They went their separate ways and then eventually found each other once more. Lixian had become a nurse, not fighting in the human's wars but doing her best to mitigate the damage just the same. He once again became her protector, assisting in whatever duties she assigned herself.

The both of them could end these petty wars in an instant. Even cast down they still held powers beyond belief. Yet they agreed to keep things small, as nothing they could do would being everlasting peace.
