Cody never new his parents, and was bounced around foster care most of his life. Since he was a cat born with all black fur, he was considered unlucky and was unlikely to be adopted out. He tried many hobbies and activities when he was young, joining a new club of some sort every time he was moved, but he'd become discouraged with each one when he had to switch schools, so he'd drop them all and start over.
In highschool, he found himself in a group home for adolescent boys. At this point he had become withdrawn and afraid to make friends just to loose them. However, a slightly older boy named Kosuvo who insisted on treating the gloomy Cody like a younger brother. The two became close, and Cody became apart of Kosuvo's friend group at school, where he met Koja. Koja was the most openly gay person Cody had ever met. Kosuvo recently transitioned between middle school and highschool, and was trying his best to live as a man and not be outed as queer, and his boyfriend Desuva was bi but didn't want his homophobic parents to find out. Koja was loud and proud, and Cody had never seen anything like it. He was enamored with it but couldn't understand why.
Cody and Koja became very close, and eventually Cody tearfully broke down and admitted his feelings, but insisted Koja was just an exception and he was still straight. They dated, but fought about it often.
When Koja's mom died abruptly in an accident, he was kicked out of the house by his homophobic father, and separated from his closeted younger sibling. Koja panicked about what to do, but was able to stay with Cody and Kosuvo for a period of time while he sorted himself out. He ended up having to drop out of school to work extra hours and make ends meet, but eventually all three of them were working and had enough money to move out together.
After Desuva and Kosuvo finished highschool, the two of them moved in together closer to Desuva's college, leaving Cody and Koja alone together. Koja became stressed about paying the bills while Cody was still in school so he didn't have to also drop out, and his maladaptive coping mechanisms lead to the two fighting, with a huge topic that kept coming up being Cody insisting on being straight and only attracted to women and Koja. He was not able to name one woman.
Soon after Cody finished highschool, Koja's younger sibling, Kris, was also kicked out, and came to stay with them. Cody and Koja decided to put their fighting aside and really get their shit together to be there for Kris during this really hard time in their life. They end up getting married and moving into a connected double apartment with Kosuvo and Desuva, where all four of then split the bills and help take care of Kris so they can have the supportive upbringing that the four boys couldn't. Cody is currently working on an online degree in graphic design.
