Kosovo was born intersex. They were also born to parents who knew they couldn't provide for a child, especially a difficult one, and so he was put into the foster care system. They were brought up as a girl, and were chastised heavily throughout their childhood for acting rowdy and unladylike. Kosuvo did not know about their condition until late in middle school, and before starting highschool he decided to attend as boy instead. Being enraged he was deprived of the choice, he left the family he had been staying with who made the decision, and was taken into a group boys home after many fights with the social workers.
Kosuvo made quick friends with a quiet boy in his classes who always sat alone and read, Desuva. Kosuvo thought he might be shy, but he was actually just extremely studious because of his strict parents, and Kosuvo encouraged him to loosen up a bit and enjoy life. Kosuvo also made friends with a rowdy boy a year younger, and the two got into many shenanigans.
Koja and Kosuvo break up after Koja's dad catches them together, and they can't handle trying to keep the relationship a secret. Kosuvo had been so tired of pretending to be ultra-masculine to pass as a man, and the additional stress of pretending to be straight and single was too much to handle, so they broke things off. Later, when Kosuvo and Desuva begin to catch feelings, Kosuvo becomes very scared that this relationship will end in a similar way due to Desuva's parents. He ends up getting very into conspiracy theories at this time to cope, and becomes obsessed with meeting aliens. 

When Desuva moved out to college, he came out to his parents and moved in with Kosuvo. Desuva and his parents had a big fight, and while they agreed they'd still pay for his education, they believe his relationship is "just a phase" and if they try to introduce him to enough girls, he'll end up with one of them. This has really strained their relationship, and Desuva has been contemplating going no-contact with them when he's done with his degree.

Soon after Cody finished highschool, Koja's younger sibling, Kris, was also kicked out, and came to stay with them. Cody and Koja decided to put their fighting aside and really get their shit together to be there for Kris during this really hard time in their life. They end up getting married and moving into a connected double apartment with Kosuvo and Desuva, where all four of then split the bills and help take care of Kris so they can have the supportive upbringing that the four boys couldn't.
