Mal-Saf

The Malice of Saffire (Mal-Saf) was the part of Saffire's soul that was split away by the angel Radienccee. Saffire's soul was to be merged with the demon Center, and would produce an ungodly being that would dominate the entire dimension, leaving it in the rule of the demon Mother. To prevent this outcome, Radienccee split Saffire's soul in half and merged with the remainder. This would create Mal-Saf, whose body would be entirely unalterable, and therefore could not be re-merged with Saffire's.  Saffire and Mal-Saf's split greatly angered Mother. Her insidious ties to the government lead to her founding an underground facility meant to obtain, experiment on, augment, and use the strongest souls she could for mass destruction to conquer this dimension.  Mal-Saf and Saffire need each other to feel stable. Saffire especially is very volatile and dangerous when the two are separated, so they must be raised together for everyone's safety. This pissed off Mother, as the facility had no real use for Mal-Saf because she couldn't be experimented on. 

Jada knew the Gemini projects purpose was to use the core subjects as weapons of mass destruction, but had no idea the scope of this for many years. When she found out that it was literally for a demon queen called Mother to manifest in this dimension and conquer it, she was floored. On top of this, Mal-saf and Saffire had been separated for mal-saf to be experimented on. New, dangerous magic was to be tested on him, to try and counter the fact that his angel-ridden body is completely unalterable. This was both extremely dangerous for mal-saf and left Saffire in a dangerous and volatile state, and she was set to be put into a suspended state until mal-saf was back.

Jada could stand this no longer and intervened. She was able to stop the plan from going through, altering the children's fate, but was caught by her superior. Caine and Jada has quarreled a number of times, but this was the last straw. Jada was put under in Saffire's place, and her consciousness was implanted into a new prototype robotic solider, a project which had been failing and was advanced by Jada's mind being used to power the robot. Her body was... Discarded. The next time she would see Saffire and Mal-saf, she would be unable to act on her own and would brutally attack the children as an automated training robot set to max difficulty. She was Jada no longer, and had become Mistress.

Eventually the core subjects revolt, and Mothers best attempt to stop this was to rip mal-Saf's soul from the angels, mortally wounding them. Saffire blacks out when Mal-Saf's life is in danger, and makes a deal with her demon that Saffire would rejoin souls with mal-saf, and the demon could have Saffire's body as long as it killed Mother. The demon takes Saffire's body and kills mother, but Saffire's soul left if Mal-Saf's body is much more powerful. Part of it stays in Mal-Saf's body, just narrowly saving her life, and part rejoins the demon in Saffire's body, and is now weaker to it. But Mother is dead, and the subjects have escaped.

Mal-saf was in critical condition when the core-subjects escaped. Saffire stayed up and and night pumping magical energy into Mal-Saf's dying body in a shitty motel room, until she eventually stabilized. The four remaining core subjects were shaken, broke, and battle-worn, but they were free.  Strife was the only one of them with experience and memories of the world outside of the facility, and quickly used his powers and knowledge to get into organized crime, making large sums of money for the freed subjects to sustain off of. This work brought many strange people to their residence, including Nevan. Nevan was stunned by Saffire and Mal-Saf, and recruited them both as model-activists to their cause. Here, Mal-saf met Raquelle, who just about claimed him as her own on-sight. The two date, but Raquelle is very toxic and controlling, and polices heavily who mal-saf spends time with and how he presents. This leads to Saffire becoming unstable from not being able to be around Mal-Saf, and Saffire's breakdown ends up reminding mal-saf about who truly cares about and supports her, and breaks up with Raquelle.
