Saffire

Saffire was born when Mother commands a demon follower called Center to fuse with an insanely powerful soul that was about to be born, hoping to create the ultimate weapon. The angel Radienccee split the child Saffire's soul in two, and fusing with half to form The Malice of Saffire (Mal-Saf), while center fused with the other half. This left Saffire much more mortal and less powerful, and Mal-Saf's angelic body was completely unalterable, making them impossible to fuse back with Saffire's or experiment on otherwise, making him useless to Mother. However, Saffire becomes incredibly mentally and magically unstable when apart from Mal-Saf, so the facility must keep them together and create The Gemini Project in hopes of eventually finding a way to re-fuse them and create the ultimate being who is mortal, demonic, and angelic. Jada was assigned to the Gemini project and oversaw the augmentations of Saffire, a core subject whose soul had been fused with a demon and whose bones, muscles, and skin were growing at uneven rates, causing the bones to literally tear out of the body. Saffire's entire body had to be augmented, and redone several times as he grew up, and it was extremely difficult to fit her with parts the demon wouldn't reject and that wouldn't be damaged by their powers. This was a grueling, gut-wrenching, and gorey undertaking for Jada. Saffire was extremely dangerous and unstable, but also an innocent child Jada was being forced to mutilate, experiment on and torture, and Saffire would die if she didn't. Most workers on the Gemini project treated the core subjects as of they were inhuman weapons, completely emotionless tools for mass destruction, but really they were just little kids who never had a chance at a normal life, and the workers HAD to consider them subhuman to be able to justify this work, which the majority of them were forced into similarly to Jada.

Jada had grown bitter and disillusioned over the course of this, but was still one of the only people to treat the core subjects as if they were patients, people, kids. She had a gruff personality and didn't tolerate violent outbursts, but she would talk to them directly and sympathize with them, even sneaking in candies and trinkets for them from time to time.

Jada knew the Gemini projects purpose was to use the core subjects as weapons of mass destruction, but had no idea the scope of this for many years. When she found out that it was literally for a demon queen called Mother to manifest in this dimension and conquer it, she was floored. On top of this, Mal-saf and Saffire had been separated for mal-saf to be experimented on. New, dangerous magic was to be tested on him, to try and counter the fact that his angel-ridden body is completely unalterable. This was both extremely dangerous for mal-saf and left Saffire in a dangerous and volatile state, and she was set to be put into a suspended state until Mal-Saf was back.
Mother oversees Saffire's development for years, and grows unsatisfied. Mother plans to separate the twins, to preform extreme magical experiments on mal-saf and put Saffire into a temporary coma. This is interrupted by the medical scientist overseeing Saffire, Jada, warning the twins and allowing them to protect themselves. Mothers plans are overthrown, leading mother to enact her revenge on Jada by turning her into Mistress and forcing her to fight core subjects.

After years of sparring with the mistress, Saffire had memorized its attack patterns, and was able to disarm it long enough to pish it far down into the bowels of the facility, where Mistress lay badly broken.

Strife was lead in convincing Saffire to help him escape, promising her to help provide for all the subjects in the outside world, being the only one with proper knowledge of it. Strife and Saffire lead in the revolt. Mothers best attempt to stop this was to rip mal-Saf's soul from the angels, mortally wounding them. Saffire blacks out when Mal-Saf's life is in danger, and makes a deal with her demon that Saffire would rejoin souls with mal-saf, and the demon could have Saffire's body as long as it killed Mother. The demon takes Saffire's body and kills mother, but Saffire's soul left if Mal-Saf's body is much more powerful. Part of it stays in Mal-Saf's body, just narrowly saving her life, and part rejoins the demon in Saffire's body, and is now weaker to it. But Mother is dead, the facility was destroyed, and four core subjects were able to escape.

Mal-saf was in critical condition when the core-subjects escaped. Saffire stayed up and and night pumping magical energy into Mal-Saf's dying body in a shitty motel room, until she eventually stabilized. The four remaining core subjects were shaken, broke, and battle-worn, but they were free.  Strife was the only one of them with experience and memories of the world outside of the facility, and quickly used his powers and knowledge to get into organized crime, making large sums of money for the freed subjects to sustain off of. This work brought many strange people to their residence, including Nevan. Nevan was stunned by Saffire and Mal-Saf, and recruited them both as model-activists to their cause. Here, Mal-saf met Raquelle, who just about claimed him as her own on-sight. The two date, but Raquelle is very toxic and controlling, and polices heavily who mal-saf spends time with and how he presents. At the same time, Saffire became involved with a partner who was similarly toxic, which is a major part of what lead to his breakdown. This leads to Saffire becoming unstable from not being able to be around Mal-Saf, and Saffire's breakdown ends up reminding mal-saf about who truly cares about and supports her, and breaks up with Raquelle, and beating the shit out of Saffire's awful partner until he leaves her alone. Saffire and Mal-Saf now prioritize spending time with each other and bettering their mental health.
