Once upon a time...
-------------------------------------------------------------
Shrouded in mist, in the ocean, isolated in secrecy, a strange, cresent-shaped island sits. On this island lived creatures of myth, ancient beings that had been dismissed as folklore. Together they hid from the modern world, protecting their magic from those who would misuse it. The land itself was not without problems of its own, with its own troubles and quarrels, but it remained a beacon for the last old magic. The dragon god took particular interest in this land, watching over it and ensuring its secrecy. And when the gods made up their mind to send their blessings to warriors to do their bidding, the dragon god knew there was nowhere else they’d rather look than here.
And they knew exactly who to choose.
The Unikyre were said to have been descended from the Unicorn God themselves, the first choosing to leave a life of immortality to stand guard over the mystical island in the mortal realm. They were rewarded for their nobility by being granted divine right to rule over the island. And so the line of mortal, demigod, unicorn-like creatures continued, generation after generation, safeguarding the lands and using their magic to keep it enshrined in mystery. They were typically pale, etherial creatures, albino and glittering. One can imagine, then, the surprise, and the uproar caused, when the next Unikrye, in the line set to take over the throne, and continue the protective magic was a black horned, black maned, fire-breathing hellbeast of a child. The Royal Family was shocked and appalled, how could this creature be a Unikrye? They did not announce Ali’s birth, and shrouded them in secrecy, scrutinizing their very existence. What had gone wrong? Was this a curse?
the cursed child, ali
Growing up as a despised family secret, Ali learned how to keep to themself, how to rely on themself, how to improvise... The one thing they couldn’t learn on their own was how to retain their temper or hold their tongue. Time and time again they butted heads with anyone and everyone, age only granting them the ability to stop themselves before setting the room on fire. With much anger and frustration to work out, they joined the Royal Military, which was unheard of for a Unikrye. For many, this was the first time they had ever seen Ali, and they were puzzled, what was this creature that looks like a Unikrye and yet? Cannot be? All Ali’s life, they felt as though something was missing. Some hole that could not be filled. There was someone in their life, some part of them... something that simply wasn’t there. They just thought they were crazy. But the day they woke up with a direction, a vision, a location in their head, a voice of an ancient deity echoing in their head, they knew what they had to do.
