• "Kamen" (written 乚面 - mysterious/strange face/mask - "kamen" is normally written as 仮面)
• Kamen come in all shapes and sizes, as varied as the humans that may have created them. There are a number of important elements of each Kamen.
• Masks are the biggest defining feature of a kamen. Each kamen has a unique mask - two can be almost identical but the masks are not the same (very similar, very nearly the same? Yes, but not exact)
• Full face masks are common, half masks that cover the top half are rare. And masks that only cover the bottom are legendary.
• Under most circumstances, kamen keep their masks on. A kamen may take off their mask; removing the mask of a kamen forcibly should never be done - the stories are... kind of gruesome.
• Masks can split open from the "mouth" area (or from beneath the half mask) to reveal a long, prehensile tongue and (sometimes, uncommonly) teeth.
• Beneath the mask if the Kamen takes it off reveals a dark void  (common), a mandelbulb set void (uncommon), human face but with dead black or white eyes (rare), human face but with eye colors not found in humans (ultra rare) or utterly human (legendary).
• Kamen tend to come in the same colors as humans or colors of corpses (uncommon)
• The other most important trait is the Kamen's core. Instead of a heart, their body is bound around an item, a conceptualization of their magical abilities, i.e. someone with a core of "rose" can grow plants.
• Multiple kamen can have the same core, however that doesn't mean their magic is the same. With the rose example, one kamen can grow plants, another can grow thorns in their hair, and a third can affect people's bonds with people.
• Kamen are strange beings whose origins are shrouded in mystery. Rumor has it that the first Kamen were created through some sort of forbidden Japanese sorcery, but no Kamen alive are willing to confirm or deny that. Today, however, they seem to just "appear" in areas filled of death. Potter's fields and pauper's graves are especially popular places to find young Kamen.
  There's about 1 Kamen for every 12,000 humans - so somewhere in the ballpark of 560K Kamen in the world.
  Kamen do die, although the hows and whys are just as mysterious. Sometimes, the only way to know a Kamen has died is to see a new being wearing its mask.

There's about 1 Kamen for every 12,000 humans - so somewhere in the ballpark of 560K Kamen in the world. 

Kamen do die, although the hows and whys are just as mysterious. Sometimes, the only way to know a Kamen has died is to see a new being wearing its mask. 

The most unique attribute of a Kamen is the mask they wear. There's only one mask wearer at a time.
