ZA'KAL
ABOUT
"Do not bite off more than you can chew, mm? Hmhmhmh."
A nearly 10' tall, broad-chested Zandalari guard with an equally massive heart, Za'kal does his best to remain chipper and social despite the severe emotional trauma he experienced during the Siege of Dazar'alor. He often tries to find ways to keep troublemakers out of jail, often giving them second or third chances to better themselves.. but usually, it ends up being a wasted effort.
DESIGN
- The upper half of his left ear is paler than the rest of his skin.
- Tusks are very large and feature symmetrical carvings.
- Does not always have his mohawk standing up.
- Prefers long-sleeved shirts when wearing casual attire.
BACKGROUND
EARLY LIFE
Za'kal is a massive, kind Zandalari born into the warrior caste, from a lineage of partial Dire Zandalari. Brought into guardhood at a young age, he very quickly proved himself to be valuable among the Rastari ranks as a strong fighter and as a reliable friend. He resided in the Rastari barracks despite being fully capable of having his own home, preferring the company and camraderie of his fellow guards.
His life was mostly uneventful up until the weeks leading to the Siege of Dazar'alor. A brief run-in with an Alliance scout provided him with some clues as to what was to come, but nothing prepared him for the bloody, senseless battle that took the life of King Rastakhan. He had done his best to protect his liege, but suffered a near-fatal blow and collapsed, watching as the King fell to the ground, cursing his Loa before ultimately losing consciousness. When he came to, he attempted to fight the poor healers that were trying to treat him, and was thankfully held back by four other guards, including his dear friend Va'ki. Za'kal left Zandalar for a brief period after that, re-training himself out in the Barrens and finding a new purpose for himself.. and a way to cope with what he'd seen before he'd blacked out, along with finding a way to make things up to Gonk for his disrespect.
ROLEPLAY HAPPENINGS
During his time away from Zandalar, Za'kal made several new friends, including a Shatterspear named Finak'dor who happened to save his life after a particularly unwelcome incident involving the temporary loss of an arm. The two eventually became partners, and Za'kal returned to Dazar'alor to resume working as a Rastari. Fin often visited him when able to, and when news came of Fin being pregnant with his child, he retired from guard duty for good and moved to Startusk Isle with Fin and Kazu'ran.
CURRENT LIFE
Za'kal now spends most of his days caring for his raptor, Aka, and occasionally breeding out offspring from her to give to either Gonk or those he deems worthy to raise a raptor. He often does not leave the Isle, finding the quiet, slow life to be much nicer than he expected.
RELATIONSHIPS
He's known the royal chef for years, both platonically and otherwise. They get along like an old married couple would, but neither of them have ever seemed intent on making that a reality.
His best work-friend of many years. Va'ki was there for him when he woke up after the Siege of Dazar'alor, and even held him back when he immediately descended into a mourning-induced panic and tried to harm the healers.
His spouse. There is very little -- if anything at all -- that Fin could do to ever betray Za'kal's trust.
While he does think fondly of the 'tribe leader', he is wary over what Kazu gets into and dislikes the loa he worships. However, he would never purposely start a fight with him.
