- Ferntail was close to not surviving her rank-up.
- I tried out for her siblings, Hollyblossom and Yewberry, as well.
Kithood [ 0 - 6 moons ] : Fernkit was born to Irisdawn, along with her siblings, Yewkit, Berrykit, Mintkit and Hollykit. She was told that her father had died, but she couldn't help but wonder who he was. She grew up fairly normally, despite her lack of a father figure. She was a loud, boisterous kits, who got along with most of her denmates. Later, she got some more denmates, Shadowkit, Smokekit and Stonekit.
The three kits had two dads, Snowwhisker and Snakeheart. They seemed to have bad blood with Snakeheart, leading to a confrontation. Fernkit was not ashamed to tell off a full-grown warrior for hurting her friends. Those three would later become her siblings as well when her mother, Irisdawn, became mates with their father, Snowwhisker. She was pretty happy about it- Fernkit had always liked Snowwhisker, and she couldn't ask for three better cats to be her new siblings. And they came with an older sister too! Stormfire seemed so cool, even if Fernkit didn't know her well.
Apprenticeship [ 6 - 12 moons ] :Fernpaw was made an apprentice alongside Yewpaw, Berrypaw, Mintpaw and Hollypaw. Yewpaw became a medicine cat apprentice, and though Fernpaw couldn't understand it, she'd support it. She was given Peachfur as a mentor. Though she thought the older molly was a little apathetic, it was whatever. She a bit mean, and Fernpaw kind of liked it. Of course, what she liked more than that was how Peachfur treated her as an equal, rather than a subordinate, useless kit. It was nice.
By the time she was this old, she was beginning to really hear about the stories about the old war, started by the old EmberClan leader. Fernpaw was kind of jealous- she would've loved the ability to flex her claws and battle prowess like that. Oh well, she'd just have to settle for being the best.A lot of cats speculated on Fernpaw's biological father. There were rumours going in every direction- to a warrior dead in the war, to a cat from another clan. Fernpaw decided to basically ignore all of that. Although... Yewpaw, Berrypaw and Snakeheart did look rather similar... Nah, there couldn't be anything to that. She and her siblings were nothing like him. It was probably just a coincidence.
Warriorhood [ 12 - present moons ] :Ferntail was finally made a warrior, along with Berryshine, Mintbreeze and Hollyblossom. Soon after, her brother Yewheart received his full medicine cat name, and her half-siblings received their own warrior names: Shadowfeather, Smokefeather and Stonewhisper. However, soon after, Smokefeather received a venomous snake bite and died. It deeply upset Ferntail, who loved her family. Additionally, her stepfather passed away. It saddened her, but mostly for her mother's sake.
Soon enough, Ferntail experienced her first major clan crisis. Wild came bursting into camp, ecplaining that there were spies in the clan. This caused uproar, obviously, and the clan was filled with uneasiness as everyone tried to unearth the spies.
After the dire warning, HailClan seemed to fracture, for reasons that were unknown to Ferntail; though she suspected those spies had something to do with it. Many HailClan cats took refuge in EmberClan. According to rumours, others were in HailClan or wandering as rogues. During this time, one of the ex-HailClan cats, Pigeoncall, mothered kits with an EmberClan warrior, Ganderslash. Although it was none of their business, Ferntail couldn't help but feel a little judgemental. And when afterwards, a MarshClan warrior, Hootsong, joined EmberClan already pregnant with Cricketstorm's kits? Well, Ferntail was about at her wit's end with all of these disolyal EmberClan warriors.
Eventually, EmberClan's spies were revealed to be Snakeheart and Sleetpuddle. Snakeheart was killed, but Sleetpuddle was... allowed to stay!? He was a murderer! That was the day Reedstar lost Ferntail's support. If the leader was allowing a killer to stay with them just because he was their brother, they had truly gone mad. Such a blatant and disgusting show of nepotism sickened Ferntail, and he resolved to have as little contact with his leader as possible. That cat had been her sister's mentor. Hollyblossom seemed to support Sleetpuddle, and, in a way that perhaps made him hypocritical, Ferntail refused to speak to her of the subject.
Somehow, Ferntail ended up receiving their first apprentice, Eelpaw. Eelpaw was wild and fun and hardworking, and Ferntail was proud to teach her until she got her warrior name, Eelswipe. However, Eelswipe passed away soon after, leaving the large molly to quietly grive the young cat's passing. Not long afterwards, Ferntail was given her second apprentice, Bramblepaw.
Bramblepaw was different from Eelpaw. He was quiet, surly, and didn't seem to care much for chitchat. The anger reminded Ferntail of herself, and she resolved to teach him as best as she could.
