Profile
Ember's older sister and long-time friend to Lynn, Dia is no stranger to being the life of her friends' (otherwise dull) parties. Always ready with a spare joke- even at... inappropriate times- Dia's fiery spirit and fiesty attitude make her seem almost alien amongst her more subdued friends and family. She makes it work, though.
In reality, despite her love for jokes and laughter, empathy is something Dia has always struggled with; to her, the smiles from her friends are the only real sign she's doing things right.
- collared shirts
- validation/reassurance
- minor acts of arson
- unemotive/vague people
- mint chocolate
- high temperatures
Born to two relatively middle-class mothers, Dia's life is quite unremarkable- just like every other child around her, she undergoes a ritual followed by all her family. Just like her mother before her, at the age of thirteen, Dia is thrown into a volcano and rises back up with horns and a tail and nightmares that don't fade with time.
In school, she is more known for her class clown tendencies rather than her intelligence, which is fine by her. She has Lynn, her best friend, and at the grand age of fourteen she figures just them together can take on the world and everything beyond that.
And then her entire life gets flipped upside down.
She doesn't watch Ember undergoing the ritual, because the uncomfortable crawl of memories along her spine refuses to cease no matter how much she tries to force a smile, but she does hear the screams of a miracle that follow. Her family is launched into sudden fame, observers constantly coming to look at her little sister like she's some sort of experiment. Dia would be lying if she said she's okay with it; the amount of people she knows don't truly care about her or her family, only the potential acclaim of a new scientific discovery.
But things are fine. Dia can keep Ember safe, and she trusts that their mothers won't do anything to put them in harm's way. Things are fine.
Until they very suddenly aren't.
For all she is cheerful, Dia has never been naive, and at this point in her life she knows two things.
One; she is completely, irreparably in love with her best friend. Two; anyone that suddenly pops into her life these days rarely has the best intentions.
These two facts combine to create a sense of total, complete mistrust when Nebula (no last name, somehow) stumbles into the frame of Lynn's life. When Lynn starts talking about a girl Dia's never heard of, a girl who Lynn has been going on dates with for the past three months (and when did they stop telling eachother everything?) jealousy fizzles ugly and dark in the pit of her stomach. But she swallows it down, has to, because Lynn is her best friend and she wants nothing more than to see her happy.
And she is. Slowly, Nebula worms her way into their friend group, and Dia gets along with her for Lynn's sake. Ember seems to adore her, which is good, fine. This is fine.
They get married. Dia is the maid of honour, and she has to pretend that seeing Lynn up there, dressed in Nebula's family colours, doesn't make her heart twist in the worst kind of way. She's so caught up in her own jealousy that she doesn't even notice when Ember suddenly seems to disappear into the crowd.
And Ember doesn't come back. And Ember is gone.
Dia's little sister is kidnapped at her best friend's wedding, and from this moment onward Dia's life gets thrown into a complete, total mess.
- she's a lil chubby!
- she has freckles, i'm just not great at remembering to draw them;;
- if you're drawing her using her powers, i'd prefer it be from her tail!
- fashion-wise she's a mess, check her wardrobe section for outfit ideas!
- she doesn't usually release fire from her horns unless she's emotional to the point of being uncontrollable; it tends to singe her hair :(.
- 100% has a playlist that's just different crazy frog remixes.
- her hair turned red after she died! she can dye over it but it'll grow back red anyway. her hair colour before she died was black.
dia's little sister! dia sometimes shelters her a bit more than she means to, but ember absolutely idolises her and she wouldn't be able to live with being the one to break ember's positive view of the world, naive as it may be.
ever since meeting in high school, dia and lynn have been practically joint at the hip. dia adores her; throughout everything, they've been there for eachother, always a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen.
dia wonders when that stopped being the case. sometimes she thinks it never really was.
nebula's... fine. dia gets along with her for lynn's sake, though nebula doesn't seem too bothered about being her friend and dia's never been one for pushing it, especially for someone so apathetic.
but they both want to see lynn happy. that's one thing they share in common, and enough for dia to make some attempt at allyship.
