✦ Pre-Collapse

Ridley lived only decades before the collapse as a mercenary for hire. He was a troubled youth during his childhood and spent all of his life running from both authorities and his controlling mother.

It was only a few years before the collapse that he died. Finishing a particular job forced him to change his identity and managed to grab an Exo for cheap from Clovis Bray. His associates voiced concern about Clovis, stating that he was not trustworthy, and that they'll look somewhere else to work out the Exo deal. Before Ridley had the chance to, he was assassinated. It's unknown if it was one of his own associates or a spy from the authorities or Bray.

✦ Post-Collapse

The late City Age was when Ridley was revived along with Riddle-44. They were guided to the City where both became acquainted with their newfound Light. Their mentor was a veteran guardian, a Titan, who was around during the City's construction.

Shortly after being under this Titan's tutelage did Ridley create a fire team. It consisted of him, Riddle, and this titan, along with a few other close friends. They kept busy with strikes, but one particular strike broke up the fire team. Looking into Taken activity costed the fire team a few members, including the Titan. Even though he stopped doing strikes, he kept busy with bounties and it was at this time did he meet a chipper Awoken Titan. Ridlux Vaanj heard of Ridley's heroic feats and wanted to be a part of his fire team. While reluctant to let anyone else in his life after losing most of his original strike team, he warmed up to Ridlux.

His stay in the city slowly pushed him to be an active guardian for the vanguard, being an asset to them. Before being Cayde's most trusted hunter, he worked briefly with the Spider.

✦ Red War

Like most guardians, Ridley retreated to Hawthorne's farm soon after the Cabal attacked. Along with other experiences hunters, he helped refugees find the farm and went off on strikes to steal supplies from either the Fallen or Red Legion. The success of his contributions gave him a mission to secure a Gensym Scribe with vast knowledge of technology. With his fire team, he successfully escorted one Idrix Vaahn to the farm and the Awoken stayed by Ridley's side as gratitude.

Ridley grew fond of Idrix, but he could never admit to himself that the feeling was more than platonic. He attempted to create a divide between the two, to get each other on their proper paths. To accomplish this, he helped in only restoring Idrix's light once the shard of the Traveler was located. Despite his efforts, Idrix stuck by Ridley and together they worked with Hawthorne in keeping the Farm safe.

However, as soon as Ridley gained a repeating message from Zavala that called any living guardian to Titan, he, Idrix, and the rest of the fire team traveled to the moon in hopes of meeting up with the Titan Vanguard. Even though Zavala had little hope of turning the tide against the Hive, he was proven wrong by how quickly Ridley and his fire team worked through the Hive. As they tried to keep some areas secure on Titan, Ridley picked up a signal from an odd celestial body: a centaur known as Nessus. The investigation into Nessus revealed the location of the lost Exodus Black and with the help of the fail safe AI, Failsafe, tracked down Cayde. With Cayde secured, Ridley was tipped off as to where Ikora could possibly be.

On Io, he attempted to rally Ikora and was successful after fending off both Taken and Cabal. With the Vanguard reunited, Ridley and his fire team focused on getting vital intel on Cabal. From movements, to activities, and their supplies. He wasn't involved in directly taking out Ghaul, but he helped clear the path for the Guardians that took the fight to him.

✦ Curse of Osiris

Strange activity on Mercury wasn't something Ridley was interested in. He was still helping out in relief efforts with the City and with Hawthorne, making sure refugees found save haven in either. It was only until Ikora expressed concern did he and Idrix went to take a look. His soft-spot for Ikora did not allow him to say no to her request.

The events afterwards left him conflicted on how to feel about Osiris, generally keeping distance from him and the planet in general.

✦ Warmind

While cruising through Sol with Idrix, the two guardians picked up a distress signal from Mars and began investigating. Although Ridley wanted to report back to Zavala as soon as a Warmind came into the picture, he tagged along only for Idrix after seeing his face light up on the thought of studying Golden Age tech, finding it endearing.

Their time on Mars strengthened their bonds, being the most inopportune time to catch feelings for each other.

✦ Forsaken

Cayde's death unexpectedly brought up a lot of Ridley's past that he'd hope to keep in the past. Obliging to the Hunter's code he wanted to see revenge through and met back up with Spider. They pretty much picked up where they left off in their business relationship and kept the door open for future ventures.

Soon after Uldren's death, Ridley's  involvement with the Vanguard lessened but he didn't split off from it. He kept close contact with both Ikora and Zavala, checking in and keeping them company rather than taking their assignments. But he felt empty, like something was missing. He shortly picked up bounties again but from Spider, disguising them as soul searching field trips whenever Idrix questioned why he was going out.
During one bounty, He picked up a baby, having belonged to the mark he was hunting down. Not wanting to straight up abandon it, he took the child in. Idrix wasn't pleased with Ridley picking up random children, especially considering they're both guardians. That it would be best if the child was raised with normal parents. Ridley was too attached to the child by the time they were ready to give her away and Idrix reluctantly accepted fatherhood.

✦ Relationships
RidluxGuilt and hesitation stopped Ridley from opening up to Ridlux. Over time, the two formed a close friendship, particularly over Crucible.
Riddle-44The two have been together for the longest time, awakening next to each other around the time the Last City finished construction. They've been through thick and thin and still keep an eye out for each other.
EskylasOriginally just a co-worker for one job Spider gave the two of them, Ridley fell for Eskylas when the mission went awry. Both spent quite a while together before Eskylas pushed for Ridley to leave him behind if he was to go with the Vanguard.
IdrixA Gensym Scribe he rescued and that was supposed to be the end of their story. Idrix stood by Ridley as thanks for fixing his damaged Ghost and restoring his light.
The two are romantically involved.
✦ Trivia
● His light wasn't restored until after the Red War.
● His ghost is a little funky. It's unknown when it happened or how, but its speech is unintelligible to others outside of other ghosts and Ridley himself. It's also 90% of his impulse and named Estrellita.
● Becomes the Hunter Vanguard but way into the future.
● Took up caring for Colonel after Cayde's passing.
