Biography

His monastery family compare Gren to wood: upright, enduring and unbending in his ways. Growing up in a moderately strict monastery, Gren is adhered to regular routines. He has a daily routine of mental and physical training in the forms of meditation and exercise. Gren is very disciplined, albeit instinctual at times. He tends to avoid conflict when possible, but acts on a whim to protect others in need. His protective nature is juxtaposed with an aggressive and forceful side; fangs he only bares to his enemies when cornered and to the ones who hurt his loved ones or the weak. This aggression is rooted in his half-orcish origin, something he has been in turmoil with ever since he was young. In his journey, he trains to develop a certain control over the orcish blood-thirst. In the heat of the moment, he often caves. In hindsight, Gren reflects long and deeply over his actions, especially if this involves taking the life of another sentient being. Gren acknowledges that cutting short someone’s life comes at a cost. If it means to sacrifice a piece of his humanity to maintain balance and harmony, he’s willing to do it.

Raised behind the temple walls, Gren doesn’t know much of how the world outside works. He is dense, naïve and too trusting for his own good, often being the victim of theft and deception. He doesn’t value material belongings that much as he believes these are replaceable in time and hinder personal development.

Backstory

At the foot of the Dragon Temple lies a bundle of wrapped cloth. Upon further inspection, the monks found an abandoned tusked baby packed away in the material. While the younger monks, scared by the sight of the sharp tusks gleaming on its upper lip, debated whether they should mercy kill the monstrosity by drowning or blade, the high Irori priest reminded everyone of the values of the monastery. One must see past the façade and see purity within to achieve enlightenment. Thus, the tusked baby was adopted into the monastery. The baby was named Gren, a name honoring his rough origin as well as the simplicity of the Irori beliefs.

Raised by his monastery brothers and sisters, Gren’s loyalty to the monastery is strong and true. The temple was his home, its people his family. However, he grew faster than anyone, both in strength and physic. Before long, his strength exceeded what his peers could handle. Sparring became near impossible as his opponents were overshadowed by Gren’s brute orcish force. Outside the ring, Gren was still loved by his monastery family, but they all feared him during training. Gren knew he was still far from mastering his skills, but understood he could not train amongst them anymore. After confiding with the high priest, who has been a mentor and a father-figure to Gren ever since the day they found him on the steps, he made the decision to leave the comforts of his home and travel where the wind would take him, in hopes of gaining more knowledge of the world around him and further his training on his own. He hopes of returning home one day as a more refined and knowledgeable monk.

Elros

A half-elf cleric, follower of Sarenrae who takes his time with brushing his hair in the morning. He appears to be a bit vain on first impressions and dependent on his faith, two things Gren has related to one another. They have since become default roommates, sharing rooms in inns and even sharing a cell in the month they got imprisoned. Elros lugs around an evidence board with him and sets it up in their room. While Elros updates his evidence board and talks through it with Gren, the half-orc zones out almost immediately and starts making doodles to add to the board as his contribution. Gren enjoys Elros' company, as he is the least chaotic among the party in his experience.

Sir Cumference

A human fighter with a roughly charming exterior. Affectionately yet unfortunately called Cummy within the group. Gren got to see a side to Cummy which he’ll never forget during a night out at the Hagfish Tavern. On his off days, the group calls him Gummy. The drunken Cummy reminds Gren to never indulge in the poisonous act of drinking alcohol.
