Raina was born into a family of Fire-types, to a pair of Flareons alongside her brothers, Pyro and Spark. Her name, back then, was Ember. Most assumed that she would evolve into a Flareon, just like her parents.

However, it was quite easy to see that Ember had no interest in fire. She stayed away from the pit of lava many fire-types went to bathe in, and actively avoided anyone who was holding a Fire Stone. Instead, to many's shock, she was found sneaking to the river that all pokemon stayed out of. Ember swam frighteningly well. It was as if she was never meant to be a Flareon.

One day, Ember could no longer stand the thought of being forced to stay. She began planning to run away. During her planning, her brothers overheard her and offered to join, which she agreed to.

Heading to the river she always swam at, Ember dove to the bottom. There, she found the item she had looked out for. A Water Stone. She pressed her paw against it and let herself evolve into Vaporeon.

Ember, Spark and Pyro went on the run. During the journey, Ember changed her name to Raina to match her type more.
