About

A catch-all oc for my trip though the Tales of series. Across timelines, they maintain the same general personality, interests, mannerisms and such. Traits like their race and numerical age are subject to shift between games and their backstory is unique in every instance.

In general Rhayn is not very world smart, but in their specific interest or skillset they are very talented and work very hard to hone their skills. They are very loyal when someone catches their favor and they tend to be a nice person unless given a reason to dislike someone. They trust very easily and are quick to make excuses for a person's behavior towards them so it very rare that they view someone as an enemy. The only surefire way to anger them is to insult or injure a friend, which they will always view as unacceptable. They tend to act and dress stereotypically feminine most of the time and gravitate towards stereotypically feminine things. Despite this they identify as nonbinary and will only accept neutral or masculine terms in reference to themself. Rhayn is DFAB in every universe, though the state of their body will vary.

About

Race Krityan
Occupation Guild Member
Pre through post
Guild All Seeing Eye

Shortly after their birth, their parents would become casualties to the Great War as the city they lived in was destroyed. Too young to grasp what happened, they were raised communally in Myorzo and brought up with the intent to foster them into a powerful warrior. Perhaps purposefully, they grew up very sheltered, barely knowing a thing about the outside world. Unsatisfied with the smallness of their life, they fled Myorzo as soon as they were able to find a way out.

Once out in Terca Lumireis proper, they endeavored to catch up on all the knowledge they had missed out on, their cluelessness and carefree nature getting them into plenty of trouble. Had they not been able to hold their own in a fight, they surely would have been captured or killed. Rhayn found themself drawn over and over again to the city of Zaphias, attracted to the Knights and their projected chivalry and duty. It was here they met Schwann Oltorain and entered into a heated fling with the knight, fueled by their common traumas and mental states. Their relationship didn't last long and the two of them parted on amicable terms.

Rhayn continued to visit Zaphias after this, spending time with (mostly knight) friends they made while they were with Schwann including Yuri Lowell and Flynn Scifo. On a later visit, Rhayn finds that Yuri has left the knights and while still able to see him on visits to the lower quarter, they begin to drift back towards a more nomadic lifestyle. They still stay in touch by letter or the occasional drop-in but the three of them all start to drift in their own directions. While traveling, they meet and become fast friends with another krityan named Melori .

Gradually, Rhayn began running into the results of Yuri and co. during the events of the game. They were curious about the rumors circulating about Yuri, and unable to reconcile them with the Yuri they knew, set out to find the truth for themself. This lead to Melori inviting them into the guild All Seeing Eye, as they had common interests.

As the game winds to a close, Rhayn finds themself realizing the depth of their feelings towards Flynn and Yuri, and would eventually ask the two of them to be their partners. Post-game, they spend as much time as possible with the two of them, still dedicating time to exploring the world when they can.

  • Rhayn's antennae guards are longer than pictured, they were shortened to fit in frame because I'm lazy. They have no set length but they are long I promise. Under their guards are long tufts of pink hair garnished with feather-like strands, though they are very rarely in the open (I like to think that they are exceedingly sensitive as any antennae would be).
  • Rhayn only wears their armor when necessary, preferring the comfort of causal clothes when possible. They like modest clothing with layers the most, finding it more alluring to not see the body rather than reveal it. Here is a pinterest board with clothing they would like.
  • Rhayn is DFAB but thanks to consistent use of fantasy puberty blockers their physique is pretty androgenous. They have small breasts that can be hidden easily under most garments and lack the ability to reproduce (something they don't find themself missing).

About

Race Half-elf turned angel
Occupation Wanderer
Pre through post
Birthplace Tethe'alla

Rhayn was born a to a human father and elven mother, though the two were not in a committed relationship at the time. The father, knowing he was of the lineage of Mana, had unthinkingly allowed the next chosen to be born a half elf and did everything he could to cover his actions. As a result, Rhayn was surrendered to the church, which then discarded them into the wilderness when the decision was made that they would not make a worthy Chosen.

Miraculously, Rhayn managed to survive their childhood, becoming self sufficient and strong in the process. However, they knew they could never return to their hometown, and didn't even feel safe risking trips into town for supplies unless they absolutely needed to. They lived a simple life until one day they were contacted by an unknown group about completing their Chosen journey, though it was already four years past the standard age for them to take the trip. [a short story about this trip can be found here].

Rhayn, hoping that it would give them a sense of purpose, agreed to carry out their duties as Chosen, being paired with Kratos under the guise of him being their escort and guide. Kratos successfully led Rhayn through their quest and after ascending the Tower of Salvation, they were transformed into an angel. However, they were not able to host the spirit of Martel and were left an empty husk in the city of angels, Welgaia. It wasn't until nearly 4,000 years later that they would again see the light of day, when Lloyd and his party reunited the two dying halves of the world and revived the Great Kharlan Tree.

Despite lacking the memory of their pre-angel life, they found themself drawn to Kratos and offered to join him on his journey to make up for his actions in the last 4,000 years. With no resistance from Kratos, who remembered Rhayn and their journey together so many years ago, the two set off together.

From here on breaks canon but I don't really care, this is a self insert I'll do what I want

After depositing the exspheres safely on Derris-Kharlan, Kratos and Rhayn (who tagged along), spend time coming to know each other. Eventually Rhayn convinces him to go back to Aselia insisting that his life is worth more than just throwing it away in the void of space like this.

Dawn of the New World

Upon landing back on Aselia it becomes clear that things are out of balance, and Kratos and Rhayn go searching for the cause of the problem. While searching in different parts of the continent, Rhayn meets and immediatly comes to care for Emil, tagging along on his quest to find the centurions' eggs and hatch them. Quickly Rhayn finds themself thinking of Emil as a son, seeing much of their own struggles reflected in him.

Rhayn tags along for the entirety of the game's events with Kratos touching bases with them in secret as his desire to keep himself out of Lloyd's affairs keeps him in the shadows. It is also during these visits that Kratos explains his past along with what he knows of Rhayn's.

Emil's desicion to stay and guard the entrance to the demonic realm hits them hard and in the end their bitterness is directed at the world that never seems satisfied with how much it has taken from them. They make preparations to head back into the wilds with Kratos despite Marta's protests and nearly leave before Emil makes his reappearence.

Kratos and Rhayn end up moving into a house on the outskirts of Palmacosta, not officially parents to Emil but certainly an option should he need a roof over his head.

  • Rhayn's wings are feathered rather than magical as they have very little magic ability. They can manifest as small simplified wings or as large bird-like wings. They can also choose to demanifest them entirely for a short period.
  • Rhayn's bodysuit has a slight turtleneck and lacks arms. It tucks into a pair of simple leather boots, covering most of their skin. The back of their bodysuit is open entirely, though this is covered by their over layers.
  • Rhayn is DFAB and has small breasts that can be hidden easily under most garments. They are unsure about whether or not they are able to reproduce.

About

Race Malak/Seraph
Affiliation Ex-Abbey
Through both games
Element Wind?

Still in WIP!

Berseria

Rhayn is a malak who was captured and enslaved by the abbey. Their time before the abbey is something they lost to years of suppression and brainwashing and were never able to recover.

Their time with the abbey turned them into an obedient tool, and somewhere along the line they formed a strong attachment to the face of the abbey, Artorious. Unable to feel or understand emotions, they couldn't understand why they felt the way they did or what they should do about it. Their willingness to please Artorious and their relatively high amount of power made them a prime candidate for early Armetization tests.

What nobody anticipated was just how wrong their first Armetization would go. For reasons not quite understood, the transformation became incredibly unstable resulting in the exorcist becoming absorbed into Rhayn permanently. Unable to reverse the combination, Rhayn became a scar on the abbey. Combined with the mental freedom provided by their new circumstance, Rhayn’s opinion of the abbey quickly plummeted. Their time at the abbey ended soon after, escaping out into the world to try and figure out how to navigate life in their new form.

The time between games is filled with much confusion and mental strife. Plagued by a permanent voice of hatred and incessant thoughts about Artorious, Rhayn could only barely manage to learn how to have better control over themself. Eventually they could stabilize well enough that they could blend in with other malaks and as the trend turned from malak to seraphim they found life becoming almost bearable. By the inciting events of zesty rhayn had become a reclusive but powerful seraph.

Zestiria

They mostly stay in their own lane until Sorey, the up and coming shepard, comes across them and asks for them to lend him their power. Their still rather complicated feelings on Artorious are what initially drive them to come along with Sorey but along the way they start to form a more genuine friendship with the young shepard.

Through this time traveling they meet Zavied and are subsequently flirted with by him and it all goes straight to their head. Immediately they are smitten with the wind seraph who is more than happy to melt Rhayn under his words (among other things). The two don't discuss their relationship in an official sense for quite some time, each of them having their own reason to avoid the uncomfortable task of examining their own emotions about the situation. Instead they are both happy to take things with as little seriousness as possible. It isn’t until long after the events of the game that either party is ready to officially call what they have a real relationship.

Etc

  • Rhayn has a very unhealthy attachment to Artorious, sometimes thinking of him obsessively for reasons they can’t understand. They want to do anything they can to please him, which is obviously detrimental when the other party is barely aware of your presence. The fantasy of Artorious they built up in their mind only makes his later rejection of them that much more painful.
  • Their relationship with their exorcist is expectedly bad. He knows that Rhayn is loyal to Artorious and not to him and it enrages him. As with most exorcists, he doesn’t view Rhayn as anything more than a tool to be used and has no qualms with being cruel.

  • Their wings are made of many fragments and are more or less in dissaray depending on their emotional state. They can fold the wings down to resemble a cape.
