Hailing from the countryside, socially awkward Qiu would much prefer the company of plants to people. Despite his scatterbrained approach to things, he harbours a deep connection to nature and passion for research topics that catch his interest. He has been called a genius, though because he struggles to convey his thought process to others, it tends to cause more friction amongst his peers.

His grandmother scraped up all of her savings and called in multiple favours in order to send him to study at a prestigious Arcane Academy in Shucheng. Qiu feels out of his depth there, but he cannot bear to disappoint her.

Qiu keeps what appears to be a pet emotional support goldfish in a teacup. People have expressed that it is not healthy for the creature but Qiu insists that's what it prefers.
