People often make the assumption that Amari loves Avarien far more than Ava loves her, that their relationship is just some dalliance, a rich girl experimenting with someone whose social standing matters less than hers; in short, a relationship that will last long enough to cause a stir, but will end in a happy proper marriage between Avarien and an eligible man. They assume wrongly; while Amari waited patiently for years, Avarien has sacrificed more than her fair share for Amari, more than most will ever know. Amari scratched away at the carefully crafted persona Avarien put on to fit into the world in a desperation to be loved and accepted, and loved her true self anyway. There is no boundary Ava wouldn't cross for Amari, something those around her are beginning to realise.

Avarien's relationship with her father is complicated, to say the least. While never outwardly antagonistic, she's never quite lived up to the mark he's drawn for her. Her life has been shaped by him, her true bubbly nature reshaped into a conformist polite kindness and charm by his influence. She loves him, as much as you can love your emotionally distant father, but feels out-of-place in a world she used to comfortably navigate. She crossed the border of Diadem without a word to her father, and her fear of his reaction plagues her. 

Lucia Miradelle

If Avarien was distant from her father, she is even more so with her mother. Their relationship is cool but calm, marked by a mutual disinterest, particularly on Lucia's end. While Avarien and her father may have disagreements, they stemmed from his interest in his daughter's life. Lucia simply doesn't care, and loves her daughter as much as she is of use to her. Avarien is a precious doll to wheel out at parties and social events for her mother, not someone to care for or worry about. Even Ava's social blunders do not worry her mother as their lack of attachment is clear enough to anyone who has ever seen them interact. Avarien loves her mother as a duty and obligation to her family.
